I can't wait until the convention starts tomorrow. This is one of the friendliest conventions anywhere and every year it seems like family having their annual reunion. There is a great auction tomorrow night after a one man show by Canada's Alain Choquette (modesty prohibits me from naming the auctioneer). There will also a big announcement made Friday night that I've been told to keep hush hush about a MAJOR competition coming up...ooops, I said too much already. There are some other surprises too. With a great line-up like this, there is something for everyone. And hey, if you want to bring the kids, the convention hotel has an indoor waterpark attached to it; fun for the whole family. If you live anywhere within 200 miles, you need to be there. The 2010 MAES Convention at the MArriott Hotel on Rt. 73, Mt. Laurel, NJ

Good convention. I met some nice people.Spent too much money. All the lectures were easy to see on the screen,This aspect is much improved over the last MAES I had attended 2 years ago.I really enjoyed Saturday's lectures. I am not fond of the five hour break between the last lecture and the final show. But I realize they need a business meeting.I drove home instead of waiting all that time for a 1 hour show.Others told me they did the same . All told I had a good time. Glenn

I had to leave early Satureday but had a good time as well. The MAES conventions are the only ones I attend annually and I look forward to them every year, however I do have to admit that the quality has gone down the last few years. For instance, this year there were only 3 acts in the Friday night show (as oppposed to the usual 5) and there seemed to be fewer lectures than in the past (although I haven't confirmed this). They also started later on Thursday than usual. I'm sure these changes are mostly economic but it seems to me that some things could have been improved at minimal expense. However, I do realize that I say this as a layperson realizing that it's easy to play armchair quarterback when I don't have to deal with the pressure of actually putting one of these conventions together. I will keep attending every year as I love the people and the warm atomosphere that I always find there but I do hope that there is a real effort made in the future to improve the quality and give the people more bang for their buck.

Speaking strictly on a private and personal basis, this was one of the best conventions I ever attended. MAES is just the right size for me. Big enough to see some great acts, and small enough to get to know new friends and deepen relationships with old friends. See you next year!

Had a great time at the convention as we always do. Such a great aptmosphere. If you had a good time and enjoyed the convention, PLEASE pass the word on to other magicians and friends you know. The convention exists for the members and we throw one heck of a party each year.
However, the convention has to be self-sustaining. The more folks who register and who come to the convention, means the more we can do to get top talent, lecturers etc. So if you had a great time, please pass along the word to others and share your experiences with them. Let them know of the fun you had and help them to register early for next year's event. Kyle

I also had a great time at the MAES convention but left early as the 5 hour break was too much.
I thought the attendence was good, the lectures were great, the Friday show was excellent. This was my 4th year and I to see everyone next year! Tom Paxton |

This was undoubtedly one of the best conventions I have ever attended.
The lectures were all very good. The shows were excellent. The Losander lecture on levitation was simply superb. My thanks to the hardworking staff that pulled it all off. |

I have to say, this years MAES convention was by far the best I have attended. To begin with I performed in the close up and stage shows. The MAES team were completely professional and so helpful. I received such a great response from the stage show. My girlfriend Leslie was in the act and couldn't hear enough how everyone loved her viscous throw of the straight jacket at my head. The highlight was Kozmo and Geoff. Kozmo can show anyone how to hold a crowed. Geoff is a wonderful performer and a great inspiration for any comedy performer. The dealers room was small and to the point, had exactly what you wanted at the right price.
Overall I had an amazing time. I saw old friends and made new ones. It was such a great time that Leslie wants to take up magic on her own. I was said to leave, and am already counting down the days until next year. If you missed this convention, you are seriously missing out. See everyone again soon and please say hello when you get the chance! |

The MAES convention was a blast. Kudos to all the organizers who couldn't have been nicer and more helpful! The magic was great! Jason did a nice 4 coin production, Bill Citino wowed them with a routine based on perception of reality vs illusion (and his penny, nickle and dime routine was just great!). Geoff Williams was hilarious, and has so many great and funny ideas I am jealous! I had to folow Kosmo in the show, which is not easy when you know that Kosmo is a show- stopper. People laughed and applauded at everything he did (using the two kids was absolutely priceless!). Check out his reel magic, a great video magazine with a ton of good stuff! I met a lot of great people there, and hope to see the coin guys come to the upcoming New York Coin Magic Seminar this Oct! Great stuff all around!!
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Nice convention.. a small intimate feel.
Kozmo Killed...that guy is funny!! and really personable off stage Losander... well come on...who's better at floating things? Just fun to watch him. Seemed a little distant off stage. Pete Geist was funny in a very wacky way. Geoff Williams was funny and good in a very smooth way Jason Baney seemed to be a little off in his performance and was not warm or personable off stage. Dance of Illusion was not what I expected . . . They had very artistic presentations. Many of the close up workers had great chops but very little theater or presentations. Kyle Peron is a great guy and always ready to have a good time and make everyone feel like a friend. Robert Sode and Chase Cottle have the beginnings of a good act but I never felt they connected with the audience. Very fun convention and well worth the time and money. |

It was a great con and I had a blast.
As for my performance it was excellent and the crowd reacted accordingly. So no idea where you got that idea Richard. And if I seemed not personable then you obviously don't know me. If someone came up to chat with me then I was more than willing to speak to them and did so throughout the con. The only time I didn't chat long with someone is after my lecture, when people were waiting in line, when I told them to find me later and we could discuss it further. |

Agreed, it was a great convention and I don't say this because I work it, Close-up Projectionist and Spotlight in the shows, I say it because it is a close brother hood of mostly northeastern magicians. I feel warm and close to many. It's also a convention run by its members and they do listen to what helpful things and actions suggested by the membership during the business meeting portion.
Jason, you were good and so was all the other acts. As for Losander, well lets say he eats and sleeps for his love of the levitation. It is the third time I saw him and I could watch him 10 more times just loving what he does and how smoothly he does it. I don't want to list all those I meet it would be too long, however, I do want to publicly thank everyone in attendance for their standing ovation and recognition of the Dr. Endlich trophy awarded to me. It was a total surprise to me, so thank you M.A.E.S members.
