Maybe a tie for 10 with Michael Ammar and Michael Finney, or David Kaye

Only ten? Hardly fair! And I shall stick with performers (as opposed to writers, which are some of the best magicians) whom I've seen:
Richard Osterlind (You're surprised?) Harry Lorayne (This guy can do anything.) Mark Wilson (This guy started so many of us!) Greg Wilson (Like father, like son) Dai Vernon (Created, developed, or stole from gamblers, creating modern close-up!) Johnny Thompson (It's like having a dozen classic magicians in one.) Michael Ammar (The consummate general practitioner!) Kreskin (Of course!) Dunninger (Mostly listened to, but have seen a bit of him on film.) Nani Darnell Wilson (You can't convince me she wasn't doing at least half the magic in those illusions!) *jeep! --Grandpa Chet

There are so many that I enjoy; the list for today emphasizes entertainers whose performance I've never forgotten..
1)Bev Bergeron (What an entertainer.)A lesson in any kind of crowd control. Thrilling and hilarious.. 2)Paul Potassy ( Again , sheer enchantment and humor , a master in so many languages. His sympathetic silks - a stunner. I never liked that effect before he performed it. 3)Marvin and Carol Roy ( Wonderful time watching them, energizing... His DVD for Joe Stevens has some of the very best advice on really creating a commercial act for real world venues) 4)Jeff McBride ( I'll never forget the first time I saw his mask act...so unique. Primal. 5)Gene Anderson ( Not only did he give us the newspaper tear, but his performances are hilarious. At a convention his closeup performance of Roydons 4 cardboard squares and card penetration was so original and miraculous that I almost gave up magic because I felt I could never be that good. No one has done a routine like his with those same props. 6)Dick Sheehy (A policeman who died much too soon; in the 70's his flawless manipulation act was ended by a rooster production which stunned even jaded magic conventions audience -- but what I will never forget was sometimes he then produced the 2nd rooster out of nowhere... 7)Fred Kaps ( Have to thank Joe Stevens again for bringing the best to the Midwest. He was magic and whimsy with a wham. Perfection. To take 4 cards on stage and make the transpositions so magical that 4 cards could be showstopping -- impossible!! The Best Salt Pour... So many things done better than anyone. The floating cork - with the cork so big in proportion to anything else that you didn't even imagine string use was enchantment that again took you to a place totally outside of time and trouble. You inhabited a better world when Fred Kaps entertained. 8)Slydini. You felt lifted out of time when he did his closeup; like the action of great music. He seemed spellbound by what he did too. Once at a convention, I got to hold his linking ring set --later that evening he was doing stage, not close-up. The rings were quite heavy and Slydini had arthritis. So later when those same rings appeared to be weightless, butterfly-like as he changed configurations of the rings, I was amazed. His routine was so effortless, so quick and active; unlike any other I have seen. It was as if the rings were alive and had a life of their own. 9)Charlie Miller. ( Another case of perfection in everything. I will never forget his performance of the Baker rice bowls. Magic.) 10)David Williamson (Magical Anarchy. First time I took friends to see him they howled with laughter, but were bothered by the impossibility of what he did for months... |

Here's two more names I'm adding to my list:
Karrell Fox ( a very funny and creative guy, long time fixture at Abbotts ) Harry Blackstone Jr. (What a voice. Floating Light bulb and Spirit Hank, never got tired of seeing these.) Ok, that makes it an even dozen.
