Is there any literature on spoon bending that someone can direct me to?

Or is this a specific effect that must be purchased?

I don't mean for this to turn into a "How's it done?" thread, and I admit I am a beginner, so feel free to share however much you feel is appropriate.

Also, does metal bending put a big dent in the performer's wallet? (I am assuming that once a spoon is bent, it is useless for future use...)

There's a lot of literature about spoon bending on youtube: http://bit.ly/aoHvQ8 . It depends on the method if the spoons you bent will dent your wallet. Do you use a pre-bended spoon? Or do you use real spoons in restaurants (watch out for the restaurant owner)? I sometimes carry a tea spoon in one of the pockets of my jacket. I buy these spoons for 45 cents per six.

Always start with the 13 Steps. Even if you're not a beginner, start your day with the 13 Steps.

Everyday, no, I'm exaggerating (why do I use that word, if I don't know how to spell it?). But the 13 Steps is still a good book for everyone.

If you are a beginner then Banacheks Psychoconetic Silver DVD is perfect. Liquid Metal by Morgan Strebler is a good downloadable alternative. Both are excellent.

If you want to take it to the next level, and really annoy the sceptics, then invest money in Coinvexed 2.0 (£80) or even better yet Quantum Bender 2.0 ($500)!

These are excellent coin benders, which bend signed coins. This is a good way of taking it up a step in my opinion; but deffinetly start with the DVDs.

For presentation I'd recommend the Banachek DVD.
For methods, Patrick Kuffs' metal bending DVD.
Get them both if you can. And don't forget Richard Osterlind.
As far as gimmicks go, being able to do it without any gimmicks is, IMHO, much better. It'll teach you much more about misdirection and often forces you think on the fly. And there is nothing to be caught with.

Thanks everyone! Looks like "Psychokinetic Silverware" will be my next purchase.

I saw some methods on YouTube but, to be frank, they were extremely lame (basically, bend the spoon against something while no one is looking...)

Yeah.. how lame. Why would anyone bend a spoon secretly against something while no one is looking? That's not real PK.

Yeah, that is just magic tricks. Real spoon bending you will not find on the tube. Think telekinesis.

...With the assumption that you have been performing and your confidence and misdirection skills are par, then here is my recommendation:

All of the above are fine, but if you want to understand the psychology and the nuances of bending, get Ben Harris' book "Gellerism Revealed". Understand this and then you can make best use of other materials. It is still the best text on the subject, in my opinion. There is also a fine inexpensive manuscript called "Key Bending" (by Mark Waller) that also addresses worthy points. Once you understand the thinking behind the deception, then focusing on techniques and routines is warranted.

In addition to (some of) the excellent routines above, I use my own coin bend as well.

I just shot a new DVD called METAL with Titanas last week - He's super busy on the edit at the moment, but that has 3 very powerful bending routines, 2 with spoons, 1 with coins and has video explanations of 2 versions of my effect LOKI from Pieces@3am as bonuses!

Keep an eye on http://www.Mindlapse.net / Titanasmagic.com for details!!

Banachek, Patrik Kuffs, Mark Walker, Ben Harris, Guy Bavli, all of them have excellent stuff related to key and silverware bending.
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

I've only used Osterlind's routine from Mind Mysteries, but it was so strong that I had a room full of skeptics thinking that I was real.
