I noticed several different Criss Angel items for sale for the first time today at my local Wal Mart of all places.
Criss Angel Svengali Decks, Gaffed Cards -w- Case, Pen through bill, Coin magic and even a magic kit.
Any thoughts/opinions on these items??
Oh yeah?! Well...That's like...just your 'opinion' man.

His larger kit is actually quite nice. Not as nice as the Fantasma sets... but still not bad.

Im not a big fan of CA... but the kit is nice.

Do you think that his kit would make a good gift for my 9 year old son??

A Svengali deck is always a good gift for a 9 year old.

If this gets youngsters interested in Magic, hey, how can I criticize this? Who knows how many top notch magicians started by purchasing something like this? WalMart is a great place to put it for maximum exposure (pun intended!)!

My only comment was it was about time on the cash-out curve for this to happen.

If he at least tried to get some quality on what he lends his name to, I can respect that.

I wish I had a Svengali deck when I was 9, instead of a dull kit for kids - with stupid tricks everybody could see at once who they worked. It took me 30 years to recover from that.

Zebaztian, I understand what you are talking about. My fiancé told me when we met that she had always wanted to be a magicians assistant (true love?). We were recently going through all the junk in our garage, and we found her boxes of magic stuff from when she was a kid. Most of it was junk. I was able to salvage a Svengali deck, and a coin plate. But over than that the whe thing was garbage. There was a nice little spongeball routine in there, but the balls were utter junk, especially for a kids hands.
If criss angel's sets are of any quality with decent instructions, then I am glad they are out there. I bet my fiancé would have become a magician on her own if the mass of kits out there weren't junk. When I get a few extra bucks I may get one to check it out.
Weird is part of the job.

Zabaztian...yup I understand...I first got a magic kit with the rice bowls...my dad, for obvious reasons, would not let me do them. (Too much water and rice everywhere.) Then he gave me a Svengali deck. I learned it well and ended up pitching it on the boardwalk.

Over here in the UK, Criss Angel doesn't mean much, but years ago we had Paul Daniels magic sets and tricks sold in toy shops etc and they are what started a lot of people into the world of magic.
As it has been said before, if it's good stuff, it's not a bad thing.
