Hello,
My name is James and I'm a new member of this forum. I started practicing different card tricks for about a couple of months ago. I can do some simple hand sleights, like the thumb fan, the one handed fan, the color change, the one handed cut, ecc. I know that this isn't much, but I learn very fast. Anyway, I tried to think about a very original way of revealing a card after I forced it, but I couldn't think of anything that was not already done by somebody. I really need some advises from you. Sorry if I posted this topic in the wrong place, or if this topic already exists, but I looked almost 3 hours in this forum, but I didn't find anything. Thanks in advance. Hope to hear from you soon |

Aren't there plenty of revealing effects already?
I try to make the card being their card the reveal rather than the way it is revealed, they don't care how they see it as long as it is right. Loophole by Cameron Francis is a nice way to get a reveal and always goes down well, actually, Sudden Impact by Cameron Francis is also a nice reveal, maybe just ask him lol particularly Sudden Impact could be stuck on the end of a lot of routines

Just use your imagination, dude. The possibilities are limitless.
So sorry I soiled your precious eyes.

Why not use one that someone else has come up with? The good ones stick around for a reason.

I came up with one that gets a good response (although now I expect seven people will post, telling me it's not original). I have a pocket watch that's actually a pill carrier. Got it from (I think) the pharmacy at Wal-Mart. Put it on a chain and play with it all night. Use it as a pendulum. Hypnotize somebody with it. Whatever. BUT, when the time is right, and their chosen card has disappeared, I open up the watch and there inside, folded into eighths, is their missing card.

In this case, don't aim for originality for the sake of originality. Aim for something that genuinely interests you. If you can get that, style will make it seem more original than it is, and nobody will blame you if they know the truth.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas. I like the idea that DWRackley came up with, the one with the pocket watch. It's nice, because you can combine it with something else (like acting as if you are trying to hypnotize your audience, for example).
That's what I meant when I said "Original". I just don't like to simply show their card. It's boring, even though you may have done an amazing trick. I think that a trick must be exciting from the beginning to the end. These days I learned the "Stigmata" effect, and I think its awesome. I also like to do the effect that bends their card on the palm of your hand, without touching it (I don't remember how it was called, it was something like "Mind bender"). Anyways, I thing those two effects are great to add that mysterious aura around your trick. I also have the blue Bicycle gaff deck, and most of the times I like to take one or two cards from it and use them to close my trick (mostly by making a color change), and obviously, closing my performance too, because it gives you away sometimes. However, since I can't think "outside of the box", my imagination is kind of limited, so I will really appreciate if you share more of your ideas, even if they are crazy, silly, stupid or impossible. I may not use your idea, but it may inspire me PS: sorry if my English is not perfect, but I learned it mostly from video games, movies and music (I'm Bulgarian). Thanks again, waiting for more ideas |

I like to tape a card to the bottom of the spectators chair. If you are forcing it, you can just tape a duplicate. If you want to get it signed you can get a double backed card, control their signed card to the top and then just double lift. You can do this with a single backed card, but it doesn't look as clean.

Hi koolcracker,
I'm clearly missing something; why does a single backed card not look as clean as a double backed card, and why is a DL required at all? If the card has been controlled to the top, surely you can just reveal it? Keep well... |

For impromptu I like rising the card out of the deck with the old th--- on the card trick.
Most recently as part of a transposition from a sealed box, I used a palm off and an elmsley count to end up with the card in the audience members hands, replacing the middle of a 3 card sandwich they thought I handed them. That had nice impact. Probably the biggest reaction I've ever gotten from a straight force was done with a magic milk pitcher. I made a two-sided newspaper (glue two identical or at least similar sheets back to back to make a "flap" in the middle) and painted the name of the card on one side in drippy, gloppy white poster paint. In the act I showed the newspaper "empty" rolled it, poured the milk pitcher into it, and then unrolled it and opened to reveal the card name. As others have said, really, its only limited by your imagination

Oh, come on! Do the Lorayne Spin, or the airdrop to the table, or my Gone Fishin', or it magically reverses in the deck, or two "detective cards" locat it, and etc. Do some research - you might even purchase some good books! Who knows?

I get the impression "original" to you means something that no one else has done. That means you will need to come up with the idea your self, because everyone here can only suggest what they have already done. there are a lot of card to impossible location tricks out there that will seem jaw dropping to a lay audience. Some are easy to accomplish, but will astound your spectators.
I agree that just turning over a card on the top of the deck is not a fireworks finish by itself. But if the the audience believes the chosen card is elsewhere and now it's on top of the deck the question becomes "How'd it get there? I thought it was over there"

I've always liked Sankey's "Paperclipped".
I also purchased an Oz Perlman trick (can't remember the name - pull it out of the box in the spectator's pocket). With the download came a Jay Nobelzada routine using the Mercury Fold and dumping the card out of your shoe or the cap of a Sharpie. Watch some videos or read some books. One reveal is going to jump at you and make you scream "I love it!". That's the one you want! Ed |

A good source for ideas, is the 4-volume DVD set of Daryl's Card Revelations. Here is Volume 1:

The CD that came with my Extractor had some nice ideas for revealing the extracted card. AIR there was a shoe technique.

Because of the little seen control which is used, it's actually more of a magician fooler than anything else. The Noblezada routine is "The Kicker" and is pretty effective, but you have to judge how appropriate whipping off your shoe is for the venue you are in. Not original by any means, but I'm very partial to a signed card under watch reveal. Oz Pearlman has a nice routine for it on his Coin Under Watch DVD, as does Matthew J Dowden in his lecture notes. Both can be obtained fairly cheaply, and the reveal offers a lot of magic for your money. Probably one of the most impressive reveals for a two card selection routine is Greg Wilson's Boomerang Card of Death (found on his DVD Card Stunts), where the boomerang card shoots up into the air and lands in the middle of the deck between two selections. (Disclaimer : I am not responsible for the months you will spend practicing this) |

Hi,
Thank you for your ideas. I already saw most of the DVD-s you advised and I think they are great. They have a lot of interesting ideas in. The problem is that I'm looking for some really visual and mindblowing reveal. Thanks again! |
