This is my handling of Marlo's Unbelievable Aces. This version is very clean.

Dealing with the Don England's routine, It's visually a fantastic routine, if one doesn't adhere to the theory that such a kicker kills the first - and real - effect.
In this case, I think that Jean-Jacques ending (the best of JJ Sanvert - vol 2) is much more logical is you use a cheating theme. The structure is nearly the same, but he ends with a Royal Flush, which is a better hand than 4 aces (unlike the four kings). And you end clean.

Jack Carpenter's O'Henry Aces is the best that I have seen. A Jazz Aces variant that keeps it direct, simple, and has a nice kicker. I can't stand other Ace Assemblies honestly.

Honestly, I think a strong kicker adds to the astonishment and power of an ace assembly routine, and many other card routines too.
What can I say?.....I grew up in St. Louis watching Bro.John Hamman.....he was the KING of KICKERS....and pulled them off soooooooo smoothly and eloquently... |

I am a big fan of Modern Jazz Aces and Hitchcock Aces. They are my go to Assemblies. But a few others that I like are Slow Motion Larry by Larry Jennings. There is one in the Close Up Fantasies series by Paul Harris I believe that was collaborated on with Allan Ackerman. It's a reverse Assembly that I do with blank cards and aces and Wesley James has a pretty cool one in one of his old lecture notes. I am not able to go through my library right now but maybe one of the other members could help me to remember.
I'm a big fan of Slow Motion Larry and am surprised that it is rarely mentioned. At least from what I have seen. |

There have been many Ace Assemblies over the years that I've had a love affair with. Currently, my favorite is David Regal's "Going and Gone" from his wonderful book, "Approaching Magic".
Briefly, the Aces assemble. You offer to do it again, but when the Ace packet is turned over, they've changed to four Kings. I like kicker endings on an Ace Assembly. There is a certain elegance to Mr. Regal's handling and structure of the routine which is why I enjoy it so much. If you've not had the chance to check it out, I highly recommend it. |

Here's my contribution:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlinuPH_SFc It's in Portuguese but we all know the plot!!!! My routine is inspired in Joaquin Matas' "Asamblea de Ases a la copa" routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVyQG-7rS5Y |

David regal has a whole chapter on ace assemblies in 'close up and personal'. His down under assembly is worth a look for sure, and some interesting marlo ideas are in there. The two that I've used for a while are one I honestly don't remember where I learned it (possibly paul Gordon?) and the other is one I totally made up on the spot during a gig! Someone previously had seen me perform McDonald's $1000 aces, and requested it weeks later, when I didn't have the nessacery cards. So I just went for it without thinking,up jogged the aces, did the nessacery on the strip out,and just did the assembly! It MUST be in print somewhere due to its simplicity, but I still use it from time to time.

Have just revisited the queen assembly in erdnase. I actually don't remember seeing anyone perform this one. It really is worth going back and doing it a few times. Using the shift/break/cutting part really does reinforce the idea of random indifferent cards being placed onto the queens.

I really like Jack Merlin's "Lost" Ace trick. I think I found it in Expert Card Technique.
