I am so sorry for your loss. I bought my first bunny almost 3 years ago. She happens to be very docile, and is the highlight of my show. I'm afraid I will never own another rabbit as good as she is.

I've bought myself a new Lucy this morning
She at this moment sitting in the hat on a coffee table listening to the children's program on the TV. This morning, she was hiding down in the bottom of the hat. It now 4 hours and she's up with her front paws on the rim looking around. I really can't teach her anything until she really tame. She is the nosey, and those are the best ones to teach things to do. I'm just climitizing her to children noise. So far so good. Tricky Ricky |

How long does it take to train a rabbit for your show?

Depends on how quick she get used to the children and noise. When she doesn't duck down or cower in the hat when the children approaches her.
At this point, I don't let the children handle or touch her. They may grab at her and scare the day-light out of her. That would be a big set back. When she start to take treats from me or run toward me whwnevr I approach the cage, then I'm getting close. Every bunny is different. The last bunny was very friendly, she took to me and the children within 3 weeks of taking her to the performances. If every thing goes well, I should have her doing little things in about 5 to 6 weeks of repition. Tricky Ricky |

I won't let the children near her as yet, it's a bit too early for contact. If I'm lucky, Lucy should be ready in about 5 to 6 weeks on her way to stardom. Tricky Ricky |

Sorry George, Couldn't resist!
When Introducing new Rabbits to my show after losing one, I always got them right into the flow and let the kids pet him/her after the show. I wanted to let the bunny know what kind of life they were in store for right away. But that's just me . . .

Richard -
You shared some great tips on this thread. Interesting idea about climatizing your bunny to the noise of children by playing a children's TV show in the background. - Donald

It's quuite frightening to the bunny to hear all that noise and screaming all of a sudden.
No wonder I received so many emails from others that their bunny not got over the stage fright. They sees us as enemies at first sight, and it's for the owner to give the bunny confidence that she will always be ok. Tricky Ricky |
