I'm looking for suggestions for a good coin clink device. I never have purchased one but I would love to show a bunch of coins in my hand (they know they must be there because they hear them rattle!)
And then open the hand and they are gone. Is there one that is affordable? Are there plans where you could construct your own easily and cheaply? I'm totally in the dark about this. Don't even know how they work.

There is one coin routine in one of the David Roth books (I don't remember witch) where he uses and describe a model of coin rattle.

Contact Dave Neighbors, His coin rattle is praised by many Pro Magicians, I myself own one of Dave's coin rattles and I couldn't be happier. If purchasing one from Dave you should consider also getting his book "Sound Routines" a book containing some great magic utilizing this gimmick. Even if you purchase your coin rattle else-ware (Porper has one, as does Tango, though many feel Dave's sounds the best...) you should consider this book.
I hope this helps. Gerald

The Roth routine Bambu spoke of is called "The Tuning Fork" if I remember correctly, from Expert Coin Magic. It is described how to make a gimmick like this (the gimmick is fairly simple), but requires working with tools for metal i.e. drill, file, etc. ...

That's what I was afraid of. I don't own those kind of tools.

How are you guys getting a loud noise from the Neighbors coin rattle? My coin rattle is barely audible. I'm using silver half dollars in the rattle.

For me the placement of the coin rattle is critical to get good sound. If I place it too high on the arm I have to exaggerate arm movements to get good sound, but playing with where I put it, and how I move my arm I can get quite a satisfying sound. It's just a matter of experimenting and trial and error.
I hope you find the sweet spot, and You'll love the sound. Gerald

Thanks for the tips Gerald. I've done all that.
I think the problem may be that I use silver half dollars in the rattle but I perform with silver dollars. The sound level of the half dollars could never match silver dollars. Does any one make dollar size coin rattles?

I use a Tango wrist model coin clinker. Sometimes I wear it in the middle of my upper arm and do a sharp arm rotation to get the desired clinks if I am wearing short, half, or 3/4 sleeved jackets.
Great price and well manufactured. I usually put 2-3 real-silver halves into it to get a nice sweetly sonorous clink effect. dsalley13 |
