For this show you MUST do something magical within 5-10 seconds. His first performance when he did the mask to dove was a perfect example, he was introduced and BAM! Magic! Then he slowed it down a bit.
This arm bit, as soon as he starting talking about the autograph, I thought, "uh oh, this is cheesy already". Then he took his sweet time preping the arm, turned his back to the audience (big no no) for what seemed like an enternity and by that point I just didn't care anymore. Didn't he learn from Kevin James? Don't do a fake arm trick for your second round. He should have done his dove act. |

Piers was spot on when he said, "It was one of the most pathetic tricks that I have ever seen". When a magician stands back towards his audience while doing something? it just doesn't look good. Right there the thing failed. Coupled with that, the arm on the table or off the table just didn't look right.
Piers is obviously the type that calls things as he sees them. Piers telling Dan what magic should look like, put Dan on the spot. In defence of himself, Dan came out with a wishy washy response. I think under the circumstance most of us might have done the same. Tabman said the producers bumped him up a couple of weeks leaving him little time to prepare. Preparation in this field is of the upmost importance, especially when it comes to a national T.V. spot and it's too bad as Dan did such a great job on the show before. With acts like Prince Poppycock, it's going to be tough. |

He still got my 10 votes last night I would like to see him at least one more time. As a side note-- his number was overloaded, and I had two busy signals voting.

I'm building one for him right now like the one I built for Kozak but it won't be ready until next week so we had to track down Kozak's original to Joe Givan who let Dan use it for the show. I noticed that Givan has removed the drawer from the saw to make the table look thinner but I think that's a mistake. Dan's saw will have the drawer. Here's a picture of the saw Dan usd last night. I took the picture when we were at The Funny Bone in P'burgh about 20 years ago. Thanks again to Dan Sperry. He's a super nice guy and I appreciate being associated with him.

It's not necessary for the working of the illusion for sure. Maybe I should run it by Dan and see what he wants me to do. If he likes it better without the drawer Ive just saved myself several hours of work. Good idea, thanks.

To all my fans who saw America's Got Talent writing about the Robot Girl illusion: Dan Sperry had full permission and I made her for him. He has my full support so please give him yours, too.
Nikki Terminator has a little sister now that works with one of my best friends. |

Ps - Nikki Terminator was created 20 years ago, so anyone referring to this as coming from Kevin James is being ridiculous.

Thanks for popping in Rudy. I thought that I'd made it clear that you helped in my original post.

Pps - I don't know the specifics of the other prop or details about the situation, but to a certain extent the producers have to agree on what material gets on the show. Then you factor in limited rehearsal time and the dynamics of the show - last night it seemed that a lot of acts had a lot of roadblocks for a lot of reasons.

Dan is AWESOME!!! I figured that there was some "behind the scenes" drama as it sounds like both Tabman and Rudy have now cleared up. I wonder what this routine would have looked like if Dan would have had more time...my guess, it would have had that Dan Sperry AWESOMENESS that we have all come to expect from him.
With all that has been said, I still really enjoyed the routine b/c I could see beyond it's performance last night and could see this as a staple routine in Dan's Full Show. I voted for Dan Sperry as many times as I possibly could (which worked out to be 8 times or me). It took me FOREVER to vote for him b/c the lines were always busy when I called. I hope that's a good sign! This season wouldn't be the same if Dan didn't continue in it. I'm a big fan of Murray's, and think it's awesome that Michael Grasso made it back into the fun, but my money is on and has been on Dan since I heard he was competing. Dan is so much better than what he put up there last night...tho', under the circumstances of the show, I think he was still AWESOME! LONG LIVE THE ANTI-CONJURER!!!!! Christopher

Thanks, Tabman and Mr. Coby. There is just way too much involved in this stuff that we have no room to be critical at all. I love Dan's act, he's a rock and roll magician that knows his stuff. I hope he goes on!!!

I think Piers's reaction is exactly what Rick Johnson was warning about with his theory. The conditions of this effect immediately cause spectators first guess about the method to also be the only possible answer.

Sorry to see you go, Dan. Despite some of the criticisms of last night's routine, I think your macabre effects, while IMHO are terrific, just do not sell well to middle America. But I would not be too concerned...you've got a great career ahead of you!
