Talk about Sam the Belhop: I saw Wyrick at the premiere and when he did Sam the Belhop he screwed up the trick after about the third "production"; He folded the deck said something to the effect that he is prepared for mistakes openly brings out another deck of cards and starts the routine over...

He really has nice toys now it is time to find a good presenter...

Steve is not that good. Pass on his show.

Well, you can't see him just yet. He was supposed to open at the Aladdin last night. His opening date has been postponed until Dec. 11th.

What I'm wondering is, with the Aladdin closing it's doors soon anyway (to be replaced with the "Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino"), why are they hiring new acts?

One thing you have to understand about the Aladdin is that, ever since it re-opened 2-3 years ago, it's been taking a bath financially. Here are a few problems the Aladdin is having:

1) It was built 8-10 feet above the strip. Sure, there are stairs, ramps and an inclined moving walkway (apparently "escalator" isn't in their vocabulary), but why add unnecessary work just to get in to the casino?

2) The main mall/casino area is about 80% shopping area and 20% casino. Guess what, Aladdin? It's the casino that keeps you open!

3) Closely related to number 2, is the fact that the mall surrounding the casino has 3-4 entrances from the outside, while the main casino only has 1 entrance from the outside. Further, you can enter the shopping area in one entrance, hit every part of the shopping area, and leave by a difference entrance, all without having to cross the casino floor (and barely even catching a glimpse of it!). Compare this to Caesars Palace's successful Forum Shops - if you want to go in one entrance and leave by another, you'll HAVE to be in the casino at some point.

To give you an idea of the effect these design blunders are having, consider the numbers. The average slot machine on the strip makes $125 in profit each day. The nicer casinos directly around the Aladdin (Bellagio, Monte Carlo, NYNY, MGM, Paris, Caesars Palace) average $140 in profit per slot machine per day. The Aladdin itself? Their slot machines average only $90 in profit per slot machine per day!

With the reviews we're seeing of Steve Wyrick's show, one wonders if this is really going to be of any help.

I know I am posting almost 6 months after the last post. I have not seen Wyrick live or on T.V but I remember an article on Magic Magazine which said he was really bad.
The last line was " its time somebody threw this Turkey out". And its shocking how he treats the VIP ticket buyers. I hear that even Lance Burton waits for people and signs Autographs for them. So whats hapenning to Steve now and who is directing his show anyway?

I heard that the Worlds Greatest Magic was going to be moving from the Saharra.

I saw Steve twice at the Sahara about a year apart. I have to admit he had improved a little by the second time, but he still was not one of the best. In my opinion besides S & R, the best act in town is Rick Thomas.

I have known Steve for a long time. Before he went out to Vegas, I saw a piece of his publicity material that had a quote from "Tom Browcow" (sic) in it. The quote was probably as accurate as the spelling.

I had a "Dutch uncle" talk with him then, about making sure that his publicity material was accurate AND to get a really good director.

I don't think he did either one.
