I know there's been a lot of discussion here about this, but things seem to change almost daily, so I'm asking...
I need to re-do my online set design portfolio. Not a project I wanted to take on at this time, but that's the way it goes. So I'm looking for a good, inexpensive Web hosting solution. The site will be about 15-20 pages, mostly photos w/ descriptions. No databases, Flash, movies, or smoke & mirrors. I have Dreamweaver, so the layout is not a problem, and I would rather do the whole site at home, and then upload it, than build it up on-line. Any recommendations? Thanks much.

I'm still happy with Bluehost.
http://www.bluehost.com/ One great benefit... real live customer service based in the U.S. Yes, they speak english! - Donald P.S. Hint - type in the search words "bluehost coupon" into google, then click on the bluehost google adwords link that leads directly to their site... it's a lower price.

My internet provider is comcast, and they offer free web space with no strings attached to their subscribers. My web address is http://www.juggleral.com/ and there is no mention of comcast or anybody else, but me on my web site.

Good to know, Al. We recently moved over to Comcast, so I'll look into it. Can't beat free.

My web designer told me that he can't use all the free space provided. I'm not exactly sure what an internet squatter is, but comcast has my space reserved just for me to use.

I'm not sure just what kind of problems you could have with your web host, but I have had no problems either. Comcast is an extremely large corporation.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but what sort of service do you need from a company that stores your web site information?

1and1 is very good although I don't use them at the moment.
It sounds like you need lots of artistic freedom for graphics and page design. You might check Squarespace. http://www.squarespace.com They seem to be focused in a more creative direction than others.

Ever tried leaving 1and1.com ? I prefer Services that I can quit on a rather short notice so I am always flexible. I also like to have them seperate from my internet provider in case I move somewhere else or find a cheaper one.

I have never needed to contact them about web hosting. My web hosting experiences have been absolutely uneventful for more than 10 years, and it is all for free.

That's great. I've only had to call my service a few times, but being able to talk to a real live techie was what made the difference.

ComCast is a cable company for television. They of course went into internet business as well years ago.
You are in San Fancisco, and California had cable television in the 1960's. If Comcast Cable is in your area, then you should see the tech vans in your nieghbor hood almost weekly. Free is an excellent price, but cable is expensive. As long as you can stay connected, no problem. |
