Hi Al, by stay connected, I ment able to pay for the service, for me the service is way to expensive. Just depends on your income and value for return of investment for each person.

San Francisco had to have cable way back then because of the mountains interrupting the signal of stations. When I was in the service, I was wondering what they were talking about. 20 later I found out as they appeared in the mid-west states. California is always a leader in everything, it just takes 20 years to catch on.

ICDsoft.com - excellent hosting site. No, it's not free; however, it's very reasonably priced. Customer service is excellent. Do NOT use GoDaddy.

I do not expect every web host to be free. I do not expect everyone to do what I do, but my friend Kim needed to be asked that question to put his, or her SUPERIOR VAGUE opinion into propper perspective. There is no best answer to this question, but everyone is free to select the web host that is best for them.

Kim baby
With an attitude like yours you are not likely to make a lot of friends around here.

Al,
I don't see any "attitude" in my reply.
The OP asked for an opinion and I gave it.
The OP does not ask "which free service".
But, I do have experience with both comcast and Hostgator.
But let me correct you on something. You say that there is no mention of comcast on your site, but if I go to your site the web address is:
http://home.comcast.net/~juggleral/
At any given time I have 10-20 websites up and running.
To compare comcast's free personal webpage to a company like Hostgator is comparing apples to oranges.
By the way, I find your comment "Kim baby
With an attitude like yours you are not likely to make a lot of friends around here." very disrespectful.
As I said earlier, I don't see any "attitude" in my stating a preference of Hostgator ove comcast.
Have a nice day.
Kim

I initially built my site for free on webs.com. I felt it would look more professional if it didn't have the host posting their banner advertising for their other clients on my site. Thus, I opted to pay them a few bucks monthly to get rid of their banner ads.

As for the domain name, I registered with the cheapest one I could find and that was 1and1.com. I then redirected it to Michaeldouglasmagic.webs.com I later learned that redirecting hurts my SEO, so I'm in the process of registering the domain with webs.com. As for the previous question about moving away from 1and1...yeah...a few hoops to jump through. Although, I think that all hosts require a 2 or 3 month waiting period before we are allowed to move the registration elsewhere.

Registering directly with webs.com is a few dollars more annually, but not much. The cheapest way isn't always the smartest way.

If I had it to do over again, I'd likely go with a different host since I've not been impressed with the tech support at webs.com ...maybe wordpress is in my future. Ugggggh...I hate the thought of having to learn a new site and recreate everything.

Only comcast subscribers can use them as a web host, and they use no banner adds. If redirects hurt your SEO then why is my web site in the top ten for the past 12 years. I don't know anything about tech support because I have never needed any.

Michael,
a worpress site that looks like your current one would be very easy.
Anyone here that has done it will tell you that you can install wordpress in 5 minutes.
As it is it looks like your site is a subdomain of webs.com.
If you'd like some tips or help, feel free to PM me.
(I think I may have seem you at Divine.)

I think that we already agreed on SEO. With six magic clubs in my local area I think that I have too much competition. The order of the top thirth magicians in my area is always changing, my competition can't be just sitting on their hands. Many of them are members of the magic Café.
