I'm afraid that it is you who has missed the point. If I'm number 6 in the top ten today, just how high do I really need to be? It's not a race you know. What if with Mikes help I could jump from number 6 to number 4. How much differance would there be to my business? If it auint broke don't try to fix it.

Ok I am going to assume that your question was rhetorical but umm I LOVE being a nerd and geek so umm ok here is the answer

TECHNICALY lets look at a search term

Looking at eye tracking data and googles own click through ratios math shows us if

100 people are looking for a specific item online (say your keyword) daily

the PAID ads will receive 30% of the clicks
the top "SPONCERED LINKS" receive 50% of those clicks, and the top 2 on the right receive 35% with the numbers dropping to 1% if 10 ads are displayed for the click ratio...

the 70% (assuming no maps show.. if they do they swipe 20% of organic traffic with who ever has the most reviews getting 90% of those clicks) of organic is fun

in order down the page

1. 61% (or 42 people a day if 100 people are searching for this term daily)
2. 21%
3. 8%
4. 2%
5. 2%
6. 1%
7. 1%
8. 1%
9. 1%
10. 1%
page 2 1%

SOOOO to answer the rhetorical question (only because it's late and I CAN)
moving from position 6 to position 4 would (if conversion ratios remain the same) double your business and in turn should double your income..

Some of the listings ahead of me on a google search are either not from my part of the country, or something other than a magician, and not every hit equals a booking. One of the magicians that I am competing with (Eric Paul) has been dead for nearly a year. My listing ranges every day from number 3 to number 8, but I am no match for you when it comes to statistics. My phone rang twice today, but who knows how many calls I could have had? LOL

I searched "Philadelphia Magician" on Google. Your website is one of the first ones Al. You have a very strong website, Al. I love it.

Even though you have flash, it does not slow your website down with SEO. You must know all the secrets.

The only two words I can find that are spelled wrong are "gray" on the "Experience" page. And "unforgettable" on the "Home" page:

Mike my friend
At "magicians Detroit", and "magicians in Detroit" you were number 6, and 5 respectively. Dynamike who ever coached you on SEO really knew what he was talking about.

I am glad I listened last year when you offered me your support. If I did not listen, I would probably be out of business this moment. Since you stood up for me, I will stand up for someone else.

Al,

do a few other things like build a linkedin account and rank it for your primary keyword

do the same with
a youtube channel
a facebook fanpage
a twitter account (automate it so it's always fresh)

and so on.. you could take over the front page for your phrase easily.. with just some elbow grease

if people who are not in your area are outranking you then if people goto one of them they will refine their search usualy and not look farther..

but yeah NOT all will be bookings but if you increase your calls by double if your ratio on how many calls to book a gig stays constant you should double your bookings..

but a funny story..
I have been back in school finishing up some certifications..
and the math on how to track conversion on a website..
I literal asked the prof. if he was smokin something because ummm how do you do that again... I had to hear it like 8 times before it could sink in what he was saying.. it was like he was speaking a different language and I only understood like every 3 words..

OHHH how that hurt my brain.. I mostly get it now.. and am figuring it out.. but MAN that stuff hurts my head..

I just went with InMotion. The cost may be a little bit more than others, but I got a special of the first year for half price. What sld me was being able to call 24/7 and (after a wait sometimes, of course), I get to talk to a _real_ American who *is* a web geek, and not just reading a help script off their monitor in a thick accent.

When it's finished (maybe later this coming week), I'll have several htm and php pages, plus a WordPress blog.

Now for the ~real~ question: does Google just automatically find you? If not, how do you get your foot in this electronic door so you can then start opening it towards you?

You need to do very little for google to find you. If you simply change your web site address in your profile on the magic Café to your new web site address, then google will quite rapidly find your site.

I am quite sure that google crawls this site 24 hours a day.

2 things...

1. the ADD Url.. that takes to long.. it's more of a standing outsider the gate waiting to be noticed type thing..

2. Yes the Café gets crawled often

FAST Indexing technique
BLOG comment on a VERY active site like CNN or something that gets crawled DAILY..
do a PRWeb press release with the link back to you..

PING the site

Socialbookmark the site at jumptags propeller and so on
Blog commenting on active blogs is the FASTEST way I have found and I do this a BUNCH

(Launched 5 websites last week, all have been crawled, 1 is on the front page for a KW that has 75 daily local searches)

I host my own site and my magic club plus 50 other magicians. I charge them $20 a year plus $20 a page flat rate.
On average, it costs $20 plus a one time $100 fee and I host and do all the pages.

Al: Thanks for the vote of confidence!! Nuttin' like finally getting it all together - only to find everyone's gone by the time you look up!!

Mike: Most of that went over my head. I get the "social" part - I am planning on creating a Facebook page for the business. (I forget what it's called - my son did it for his business: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yuma-AZ/Pi......22444545 )

And reading and commenting on blogs, and setting my URL in the signature.

Those, I can do.

After all, I'm not looking for natinal attention.
