@Saysold1: this is exactly the handling I am recommending and doing for myself. I tilt the deck forward and - at the same time - turn it around like a book so that the faces showing towards the spectator.
With this handling you are on the safe side. (everybody who owns the effect knows why) BTW, for 53 US$ plus some tools, time and effort you can prepare this effect by yourself. I am not sure if this "saving" is worth it.

It's everything it claims to be. Magic Wives don't find the whatever. The concept and design are genius level. The quality and workmanship of the deck is superb. Best, Dave

I just made a small index for the spectator's peeked card choices. I figured rather than looking like I am performing a completely different magic effect, I would like to bring the card out with minimal fidgeting. Works great, and I'm way ahead of that game!
Thanks, Mark |

Remember the TV show/Movie, "The Fugitive"? I've developed a story about the one armed man being a card cheat, etc. You could really build this up.
By the way, for you NY/NJ guys, Fantasma (33rd and 7th) carries this. Ask "Magic"( one of the demonstrators) to show you how he knows the selected card. It's really good! As to the price, its like anything else...if you use it regularly, its well worth it. If you throw it in a drawer, its a waste of money. I don't think this will go into your drawer.
Best regards,

I really hate it when John Mendoza blows it in a review. In fact, it really makes me flinch when John makes a statement like "Keep in mind that this is a one-trick pack..." because it shows that he hasn't done the required reading.
This is the second trick to be published in the English language using precisely this deck. The first trick was originally published in German under the name "Das Fentster zum Jetzt." The rough effect was basically the same, i.e., a peeked card disappears from a pack of cards, or in the case of other trick, a large packet of cards. However, the presentation gives it a completely different feel. At the time the other trick was published, these cards were not available, and you had to purchase several decks of special cards to make the set you needed. There is a lot of hand work in these decks. I knew what this was when I first saw it. Not because of the way the trick worked, but because I had translated both versions of it into English. If you carry an ID, you can make room for this deck.

Bill-
Would you please elaborate a little on other handlings or angles of Get Sharky that might be interesting? As a happy owner of Get Sharky to me there can be no doubt that this deck can easily perform some extra miracles with a dose of creativity. I also agree that this is not a one trick deck and it is a beautifully crafted precision piece. Thanks also for elaborating on the German heritage of this effect. Apparently the Europeans were enjoying this beauty for some time before we caught on here, but I have to think that in the grand scheme most have never seen or heard of Get Sharky. BRETT

There is a routine in Final Curtain by Borodin that uses this same setup. It's not your basic strolling piece, but it is a good piece of philosophical/story magic.
It's not difficult to visualize several other ideas, though. For example, you could present this as being the only piece of magic in which the hand is quicker than the eye. If you want to "decorate" it a little, put the cards that you reveal at the end into coin envelopes, each in a different pocket. Have the spectator peek at the card, immediately hand him the pack and say "It's in my ______ pocket. Reach in and take out what you find." He pulls out the envelope, and removes the card. Then he goes back and looks through the deck to see if his card is really missing. Not that I don't like the "Get Sharky" story. It's a good one. But it doesn't fit my style of performing. Here's another thought -- explain it as teleportation. While you are at a friend's house, use a moment in which you are alone to distribute the duplicate cards into odd places around the house, such as inside various books. I think you see the way it plays. You don't have to bother to clean up the extra cards. They will never make the connection when they run across them later.

I'm not a big fan of gaffed cards or decks. This one has caught my eye.
It was said in an earlier post; "The cards are NOT plastic but a specially produced paper where the finish makes the cards to feel like plastic. They will stay in that condition." Does this mean the deck will last much longer then a regular deck? I'm only asking, because at $80.00 a pop... |

Sorry to disagree, Bill, but I still think it's a "one-trick" deck. It might be a multiple presentation deck, but the one trick is essentially that a peeked card vanishes from the deck. Whether it transports, reappears, materializes, whatever, or whether it vanishes from a packet rather than a full deck, the effect is simply a singular one of a card vanishing from the pack. Maybe I should have been more specific and wrote one effect deck. To be clear, however, I'm not knocking it, in fact, I like it very much as my review stated. I must confess I am not well-read on foreign language literature, even books later translated.
The original Franklin V. Taylor was a "two-trick" deck. Either the peeked card vanished from the pack as with Get Sharky. Or, the second effect was a very puzzling divination. A spectator merely peeked a card and you instantly named it. Of course, that could be done with Get Sharky, too, but with the Taylor Deck you weren't limited to a few selections. In any case, I think it's a fine effect, an extremely well made deck and worth the $80 price tag to anyone who can afford it. I, too, wonder a bit how well the cards will hold up under rigorous use. Nowadays, my deck should last a very long time since I do only occasional shows, but ten years ago the pack would have gone through 50-100 performances each day and that's pretty hard on any deck. |

The deck - handled well - should last as long as any other deck. I use one deck for one convention and do hundreds of presentations of Get Sharky without problems. If you are sweating a lot or work with dirty hands, this time span will certainly differ.
As the cards in your pocket are taken from a regular Phoenix Deck, these cards, if bent, can easily be replaced as such a deck costs 3 Dollars only. Taking out the matching cards from used Phoenix decks and placing them at different places in your friend´s homes (keep a list to know where you placed them...) would kill them sooner or later. Just imagine being able to tell them that their card appeared under the large pan in the drawer of the kitchen. And perhaps the card was there all the time since you deposited it perhaps weeks ago. Or under a certain seat in the audience. The possibilities are endless. Oh, and yes, it is a one-trick deck like an Invisible Deck or Brainwave Deck. As always in magic, only your imagination and talent will limit the possibilities with such decks.

Tamariz has a great cards across using cards from the Taylor Peek Deck. It's in Sonata. And, if I'm not mistaken, one Café member sold some incarnation of the Peek deck as a Hoy Tossed out deck. As I told Card-Shark via email, I think there could be demand for a rerelease of the Taylor deck with a booklet of strong routines.

I found the effect you are mentioning in Sonata, it is from Rafael Benatar whom I met also in San Diego and who was also fooled with Get Sharky. Funny. I will take the book with me to Vegas (I leave in a couple of hours and will try to find the time to go deeper into the routine. Seems to be an interesting one.
