The heater came in real handy today, too. I warm up the garage and work on the non-flammable stuff... gluing, sanding, etc. Then, I shut it off and use the remaining time to spray paint... until things cool off too much. At the high end, it's about 60 degrees in there, and that's T-shirt weather for me.
I need to find a local source for kerosene. I'm about out and haven't gone looking yet. There was some already in the heater and a little more in the fuel can when I picked it up last Saturday. We've been getting a fair amount of snow here. 3 more inches last night and this morning. I don't mind being a hermit. The toughest part of today was putting on boots to take the trash cans out. Ha!

Michael,
Glad to hear the kerosene heater is doing the job for you. Look for a kerosene pump where you bring your own can. Where I live Home depot sells full five gallon cans for $50. Just a mile down the road you can pump your own for about a third that price.

Usually if a place has it (like a gas station), they'll have a K-1 sign posted. I'm heading out in a bit, maybe I'll spot one without doing a ton of driving.

So far I have not spotted a "pump it yerself", but I've been buying 2.5 gallon jugs at Menards. They are cheaper than anyplace else that sells the pre-bottled, but it's still a bit pricey.

Michael, it seems like you're getting some mileage from the space heater, and hard insulation would be too much work, but have you thought about spray insulation? I know you've seen the small cans of expanding foam for around doors frames and windows, right? It comes in larger sizes too, in presurized cans like a pesticide sprayer, that can do a large room.

Just got back after being at my sister's home for most of the day. Good bit of snow, so we are having a White Christmas, for sure! Long drive though that took about twice the normal time. This is the snow on my back deck railing. I put the can in place for comparison.

WOW! I was so surprised when I opened my Christmas present from my wife. Apparently, Michael Baker and Mrs. Gimpy have been sneaking around through some 40 secret emails conspiring to bring me a very magical Christmas. This is truly one of the nicest Christmas presents I can remember! Michael built not only a beautiful prop for my collection, he even took the time to Hallmark and stamp it #1, plus added a special note in the instructions, to make it truly a one-of-a-kind item.
Thanks so much Michael!

This is a double nest for a watch, ring, coin, card, bill, etc. Fully examinable, and may be unlocked by the spectator. I only made two sets.

Hi Michael,
I know you have been back a while, but I was waiting for the perfect day to say "welcome back to Central Illinois". They are predicting about 18" of snow for Peoria today and tomorrow. |
