I have a variety of pendulums and they all have a different weight and overall feel to them. From heavy to light...they all work.
What is important is how you will use it and what for. Then you can pick out what items you want on the pendulum. Maybe the items on the pendulum fit a theme you have for a routine. Maybe the items are a symbolic meaning that fit who YOU are or would match a routine you will use them for. Items such as a wedding ring on a simple string work great. A key on a string. A stone glued to a chain will even work. A haunted key on a ball chain will work great. These are all different sizes and weights that will work wonders with your participants. Mental Craft is here on the Café (go to 'inner thoughts' section to click on his ad) and contact him with your ideas. He has made me some wonderful pendulums just from my ideas alone and they are wonderful and have a great weight and feel to them. -Scott M |

There is no "recommended: or ideal weight for a pendulum. I have several and no two of them weigh the same -- some as little as 1/2 ounce, others several ounces. As Scott has noted, Mental Craft offers a variety of unusual and specialty pendula and if you google "pendulums" you will find a whole host of sites offering many different varieties. Some of the more "classic" designs, one of which is the "Abbe Mermet" pendulum are made in brass.

What would the "go to" literature be for one new to pendulum work?

I'd recommend:
Trybil--Bill Cushman & Pendulum Power for the Psychic Entertainer--Richard Webster & if it seems to fit your needs, Pendulum Programming by Kenton Knepper, although it is a more specialized work. Other stuff: Bob Cassidy also has a book called the Pendulum of Fate, there is an old Richard Webster video on pendulums, and there is a section in Banachek's Psychophysiological Thought Reading on pendulums.
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

I made my own pendulums just because they have a real history for me.
The Key of my Grandpa, the Stone from Greece, and others. The important thing is the stimulation to the unconscious and what do you wanna achieve with that

I don't find the weight to be completely irrelevant.
For instance, if you use a sewing thread, something very light can work, if you use a piece of nice satin cord, you usually want something a little bit heavier in my experience. that said, the weight isn't important to the pendulum over all, but is relative to what it's swinging on. This halloween I'm using a carved bone pendant. |

The weight of a pendulum will only influence the time it takes to switch the swinging direction based on changing information or questions or intention.
