If you garage sale some you can find an anniversary clock, there the ones with the glass dome. The little winding wire is always broke on them so you can pick them up for a few bucks. they have lots of big brass gears and such. But watch out for the plastic ones. Oh if you don't need the glass dome you can get $15 bucks for it on e-bay. So you get steampunk parts plus a little pocket change to boot. I have bought 6 or so this year and have a huge stockpile of junk to work with for free.

I actually have one of those here, and was planning to abandon it when I move. Guess I'll pack it!

Interesting that Jules Verne was mentioned as a Founding Father of the genre, a claim with which I won't contend but will note that it is an ironic homage. Verne, in his day, was considered a futurist; he might be bemused at the retrospective honour. Thinking out loud, Leland |

Actually, I was referring to the movie from the 1960 starring Rod Taylor. I saw that when I was 15 and continue to enjoy it. I just watched it a couple of months ago. I love the time machine in that film. I havent seen the newer version. Ill take a look. Gimpy, great idea and like Michael Ive got a non-working one right here. I can see a new hobby developing; well, maybenot a hobby but a special interest.

You know, if you are going to steampunk your props then you better have some appropriate music in your workshop! How about a little "Chap hop?"
