I'm looking for the year and any origins of the trick, any historical information about it would be great! Who idea was it? how was it originally done? Where did he first do it? But the biggest question is when?
Thanks! Mike |

The only reference I have been able to find is the reference on pp. 8-9 in Kenneth Silverman's 1996 book "Houdini, the Career of Erich Weiss" in which he mentions that "The Brothers Houdini" performed at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago and that in 1894 the act closed with "Metamorphosis" (the sub trunk effect). I have not seen anything to suggest however that Houdini originated the effect.
Although I am by no means an authority on the life and career of Houdini, Silverman is and his biography is generally considered to be the most authoritative. I hope this will be helpful.
