I want to make this a double question.
A) Your favorite that you perform B) Your favorite that you've seen someone else perform For me, the favorite I perform would have to be Powerball60 since it jives so well with my dissertation research and it's a great ice breaker when someone asks me about it. My favorite that I've seen performed would have to be David Copperfield performing Crazy Man's Handcuffs on TV when I was a kid. Seeing that simple trick is what got me into magic. |

A) The Teleportation Device. Rock-solid entertainment top to bottom, always kills, super-fun to do.
b) Shoot Ogawa's thimble routine. That's about the most charming, magical thing I've seen.
The current economic crisis is due to all the coins I've vanished.

Welcome to the Café, Trouser! Interesting double question. I gotta think about that...(squeaky wheels start turning...) Past or present? Hmmm, OK
Past: 1. Astrosphere. I adapted my own version of it. Music was an excerpt of Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" with Clare Torry's soulful vocals, from "Dark Side of the Moon" album. 2. My mentor, Steve Vogelsang's Multiplying Billiard Balls, back in the late 70's. I learned so much from him. Present: 1. Prohibition. Impossible looking cap through bottle effect. 2. David Copperfield's "Flying". Absolutely magical! Doug |

My favorite? it changes, but right now it's Jay Sankey's sleeping queen.
As far as favorite to watch? That's a hard one. I love all the old Doug Henning TV specials.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Wow there are so many answers to this question...
I agree that Copperfield's levitation/flying was an outstanding thing. (Now ask me what I think about the Grand Canyon atrocity... oh well, he was under pressure to top the disapearing statue of liberty I guess.) Having said that, I recently saw a eastern eruopean lady magiciain do a flying routine with a ball where they basically danced with each other in the air that was just breath-taking. (its on youtube, I think Dougini pointed me at it.) My favorite illusion to perform used to be my $5.00 miracle ball. I put huge amounts of time in highschool into practicing it and eventually invented my own Asrah style disappearance for it at the end. My favorite recent prop purchase was an Extractor, and my favorite illusion I've done recently was a signed card in sealed box to audience member's hand that had great punch. PK ring and silverware is GREAT fun too But, just for quick simplicity and "ready anywhere anytime", I really like the "parade of Kings" I carry in my wallet. I do it as a reverse mind-reading rather then a prediction. I let the audience "read my mind" as to which king is the special one. This plays great, especially with kids in the schoolage to junior high range who love the empowerment.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

I love when I'm able to do an Arabian Tent with a "special guest" (a local celeb or someone that everyone knows). The "tent" is made from a cut up packing box, and that alone blows away the audience. I can "train" the guest how and when to move in about 10 minutes before the show. It's not high tech, and it kills!!! (...wish I could do it more often...)
More regularly, a very simple four ace trick where I let the volunteer do all the work. The reveal is very personal, and usually gets an outburst of disbelief. Gotta love that! As for watching, I just never get tired of seeing Slydini put paper wads into a bottomless box. No matter how many times I watch that vid, it still fools me! For current acts, it's got to be Lance Burton's Floating Bird Cage.
...what if I could read your mind?

My favorite magic tricks to perform are the ones that ONLY I DO. I do like to watch Shigeo Takagi perform the Bob Ellis "Vishnu rope mystery" because it will fool a magician every time.
