Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

Dear Michael Baker,

Yup, I just told my age, I didn't watch all those but I have a quirky brain that gets stuck on songs for days. Ear Worm is a good name for that.

It's purgatory! I get some Mission Impossible and Deep Space Nine days but one tiny bit of the "Meow Meow" song or Justin Beaber and the day is shot. Flipping from channel to channel with out Mute is like navigating a land mine (or being driven through one since I'm not usually the driver).

There is one I whistle but to be honest I'm not sure if it the I Dream of Jeanie song or the My Three Sons song.

Isn't it ironic that the 80's is known for bad music but had the best theme songs?

I thought it was "in west philidelphia . . ."

Also, how has no one mentioned Spider-man yet?

But mods, please don't delete this thread, because the question is actually different. It's about tune addiction.

German has a great expression for a tune that you just can't shake for a day or a few: an ear worm.

Which of these TV theme songs are ear worms?

Many, many, many. Some of these composers really knew what they were doing.

Exactamundo! I don't even know if I've ever seen an entire episode of Andy Griffith, but I've had that infernal whistling in my head for 25 years...

Well there are loads that spring to mind.

I'm starting to play with a new band this weekend. Looking at some of their tunes, their most popular ones are:
Hawaii 5-0
Peter Gunn
and the one I'm REALLY looking forward to,

Do miniseries and TV movies count? Every 6 months or so, the theme from "The Doberman Gang" gets stuck in my head.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

A show that I loved watching when I was around 5 or 6...the theme is still pretty catchy. Besides, the show stars Tom Bosley, what's not to like?

Somehow Josh's post made me recall that one of the most addictive songs I've ever heard for a TV series was here in Germany.

Listen to this five times, and then try to forget it. You can't. It's an ear worm.

Hmm...the animation sequence and music is strangely familiar...I probably saw it before on ZFN...or whatever the channels are there...I only remember ZFN. Probably because of *ahem* certain shows that came on around 11:00 PM

This was before my time but it was on a cartoon theme song tape I had in high school:

Another one that's not a theme song but gets me choked up:

"1. Knight Rider
2. Airwolf
3.dukes of hazard"

Carrie, we agree!!! I can't believe I forgot the dukes. I met boss hog once!

Robert Altman, the director of the film m*a*s*h, said his son made more money than he did from it, as his son wrote "suicide is painless" the theme song for the film and show.

What war was it about?
