Rabbits generally scratch/kick for a couple of reasons. The first reason would be if they do not feel secure in the way they are being held, they will kick in an attempt to get a better footing. Another reason is simply the fact that the rabbit in question is not used to being held. I raise rabbits, and have seen this many times, in rabbits that I don't handle as much as I should. The best cure for that is to simply hold the rabbit every day, for a fairly long perid of time. (15-30 minutes, or longer). When you hold it, keep it close to your body, with one hand securely under it's feet, and the other hand around it's body. At first, the rabbit will still kick, and fight your efforts, but it will, eventually calm down, and get used to the attention. The more you handle it, the better it will act.
Let me know how things work out. David |

David,
I ditto your remarks. Interesting that I suggested the same on another post to Paul. I believe that holding and making sure that the bunny feels secure and protected will settle him down in time. Max |

Paul,
I will also second the suggestions above. I set with my rabbit everyday on my lap. I pet her softly and talk to her. this helps with the bonding process. I also let my rabbit run free for a while around the house ( Keep a good eye on them as they like to chew electric cords) when it is snack time I hold the snack in my hand and feed it to her from the hand (again it gets the rabbit to trust you) I also put her in the magic prop for a few minutes each day. I don't necessarily do the trick with her every day I just sit her in there and let her walk around, keeping her use to the illusion. Bob

There many rabbit breeders at the local couny fair. If the fair is over, go to the fair's office for a list of the breeders that were showing at this past years fair.
Magically,

Another possiblity is if you have local auctions, ie farmer markets and auctions. Many times they have small livestock for sale, various birds, rabbits, chickens, ducks, etc.
The magic is not in our sleights and illusions, but instead in our ability to bring love and joy.

I have a regular connection with a breeder in my hometown. But if I get stuck w/o a bunny away from home, I'll call/go to a feed store and they can tell me who the local breeders are. I find this much better than going to pet stores, as the breeders often have hundreds of bunnies to choose from. (And if they're raising them for food - you're doing a wonderful thing by rescuing them!)
You can't fly bunnies into any of the Tahitian Islands, so when I fly there to join a cruise ship (which is at least once/year), they fly me in a couple days early to find bunnies there. This is no joke - they always put me in the same hotel, and I've established a connection with the farm that sells rabbits to the hotel restaurant! I feel good about saving a couple rabbits and giving them a long happy life. (When I fly home a few months later, I usually give them away to one of the port agents I've gotten to know.) Un-doctored photos of the the bunnies I had on a ship this past summer - amazing how they did EVERYTHING together: http://cid-0233e1bb7fecab4b.photos.live.......0Bunnies |
