Wonderful article in the September MAGIC Magazine. All class. Thanks to Lance for all the kindness shown to me and everyone else around him two years ago at the World Magic Seminar and allowing us getting to have our pictures taken together. Magic performance at its very best, and looking forward to seeing Mr. Burton in another venue or on the road very soon. Roger Magic Bus

My wife and I are visiting Vegas and saw the final show last night. I've seen Lance Burton perform several times in the past, as part of It's Magic and twice during his "World Tour" performances in Cerritos, California, but never at the Monte Carlo. It was all bittersweet for me, as I'm sure it was for many. As I expected, Lance performed flawlessly, and I enjoyed the show. But part of me was distracted by constant thoughts of "this is the last time." I recall his final invitation to The Masked Ball had a slight pause in its delivery. Maybe he was pausing for technical reasons. Or maybe he was thinking what we were thinking.
Also, as expected, there were lots of magicians in the audience. Lance acknowledged these during the show, even noting, "This is Fielding West's favorite" in the middle of a trick. Many magi gathered to chat after the show, until the staff kicked everyone out of the theater. Lance exited the theater in a classy manner. He walked off the stage with a camera man following him, and the audience got to see the live feed on the screen in the theater. Lance shook hands and hugged all of his crew members and assistants, then climbed into his awaiting black Corvette with his girlfriend, and drove away. It was a fitting end. Thanks for the memories, Lance. Looking forward to seeing where you land. Ross |

I have a strong feeling Mr Steve Wynn is going to snatch Mr Burton up...what a catch!
Just a gut feeling... Don |

Way back when I was a magic dealer I displayed at the Evansville convention, where Lance won the Gold medal. Now frankly I would not have voted for him, but the next year when I saw him at the Pittsburgh convention I was blown away. The act was infinitely better.
This impressed the heck out of me as most acts when they win a big prize don't totally redesign the act they won with. Then after winning FISM he did it again starting to talk and add illusions. Lance has got to be one of the greatest magicians ever! I wish him well in his future endeavors whatever they turn out to be. Gil Scott P.S. In the early seventies when I worked at Guntown Mountain in Cave City, KY Harry Collins used to visit a few times each summer and he mentioned a couple young guys from Louisville from who he expected great things, I have generally assumed he was referring to Lance and Mac King. |

We went to see the show on Tuesday. Oh man he has not lost a step. He closes the way he ran, with class personified.

Lance was super nice to me when he was at the Hacienda when he found out that he had opened the show for us when we played Six Gun Territory. I was happy to see a magician on stage with country music. I believe it was 1980 or therabouts. To have come this far in only 30 years, to become an icon, just proves to me that you can still make it in America.
Luck might have played a part (it always does, good or bad) but hard work, perserverance, and desire helped him earn every inch of the journey. I'm proud to say I knew Lance back when. He is truly a classy guy.

I've been lucky enough to see Lance 4 times. 3 at the Monte Carlo, once in Atlantic City. And have met him ever so briefly, just shook his hand and said hello. I really get the impression he is one of the classiest guys left in show business. It seems as though he's just going to take it easy for a while. It's sad, but he has CERTAINLY earned a vacation.
Best wishes on any future endeavors Lance! |
