Lawrence Gowan a stand-up comic? Are you sure? He had a recording career before he was in the band...as for him not wanting to sing the songs Dennis wrote...he didn't seem to have a problem singing Babe, Lady or Loreli - the songs he wrote for Suzanne.
The funny thing is, Dennis has a new guitarist singing Tommy's songs - and he sounds almost exactly like Tommy Shaw (possibly better) close your eyes and listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1oRTu5xrQ His other (new) guitarist looks like JY from the right angle...I'm sure it's by design. |

I have no idea of the guys name as I've only seen Styx when they were Styx. You know, it could have been a stand up comic doing a bit of being the new lead singer of Styx and refusing to sing the songs. I do know the guy was a stand up and I was surprised he could sing, now that I read the profile it doesn't fit the guy on the radio.
Didn't Dennis leave the band on good terms? I'd go see his band play. Last time I saw his name he was in Jesus Christ Superstar or some other big show. Remember when Journey hired that Steve Perry clone? |

It really doesn't seem that Dennis departed Styx on good terms, if the Behind the Music documentary about them is any indication. There was already a lot of tension between Dennis and the others because of the fallout from Kilroy was Here and, in the late 90s, he became very ill and wasn't able to commit to a tour, so they booted him. Seeing how there was later a lawsuit between him and the band over the use of the name Styx, I'm guessing there's little goodwill on either side...as a result of that, however, neither is allowed to trash-talk the other.
If you want to see him, he plays very regularly and the itinerary is on his website (http://www.dennisdeyoung.com/) As for Journey, they've gone through more lead singers than Michaelmystic has gone through creative outlets. |

Ha! Last show I saw was that Kilroy in a lil' Berkeley theater...I thought it killed the band, it was terrible. I didn't know they did a behind the music, I thought Dennis wanted to do classical music and thought he had left on his own steam and gave his blessings. Too bad they didn't just carry on. I don't pay a lot of attention to what is going on with bands....dang Styx was great though.
In Reno they had Credence Clearwater Revisited playing in one casino and on the same night at another casino they had Fogerty playing with his CCR band. That is the cool thing about Reno, about once a month someone is playing and the first thought is "they are still alive?" |

Well...you're partially correct. After the Kilroy debacle, the band split up and went their separate ways. Dennis did his solo career, Tommy joined the power group *** Yankees with Ted Nugent and JY did some jazz albums, then they reunited. Then they broke up...
But back on topic. Yay Rush! In Ged we trust! Slappy da bess! |
