Ramadan is upon us, so to all of my Muslim friends (I don't know what the proper expression is) have a good month of fasting.

Al, Ramadan is upon us but is nearly over. It ends this year on September 10.

You now know how little I know about Islam. Is this the time of year when people make the pilgrimage to Mecca for the Hodge? The heat in Mecca in September must be unbearabily hot.

Note: The exact dates of Islamic holidays cannot be determined in advance, due to the nature of the Islamic lunar calendar. Estimates are based on expected visibility of the hilal (waxing crescent moon following a new moon) and may vary according to location.

Thanks, it's almost over... (And the pilgrimage to Mecca is normally called the Hajj in English )
The Eid on this Sept 10th is Islam's day of celebration akin to Christmas or Chinese New Year.

Al, will you be going to Mecca? I think you can be a representative for Philly. The city of brotherly love visits the people of the religion of peace...it would be like Woodstock but without the music or nudity or porto-sans.

Well I hope everyone who observes it had a very rewarding Ramdan.
Now Happy Jewish New Year too, as its just begun! (As I've said before, we're awfully close cousins.)
