Wasn't too sure on where to post this so I hope I've chosen the right place...
I tend to wear a denim jacket very often and have been thinking about trying a topit with it. Now although I know about the basic principles behind a topit I'm pretty new to the subject and I've heard that the Pat Page video is very good. I can't find it at any of the UK dealers I know of so does anyone know where I might buy a copy or can you suggest an alternative learning source? Also - does anyone have any experience using one in a denim jacket and is there anything specific I should watch for or try to avoid? Thanks for any help... Bilz

Sorry Bilz,
Can't help you out with any references on learning resources for a toppit however I've always felt it better to just search for your own way of doing things as it's more satisfying. Socrates 'The focused mind can pierce through stone' - Japanese proverb |

Thanks Socrates - gotta agree with you there, but I just want a bit of a pointer in the right direction... I really am pretty new to the subject so just a decent article I could read would be a big help!

A denim jacket should not be a problem assuming it has the proper amount of "give".
I am assuming you are referring to a standard "sports coat" or Suit type jacket made of denim as opposed to a jacket that zips up the front. I have the Patrick Page video, it is a good one. Very surprised to hear it is not readily available in the UK. He has an old booklet regarding the Topit but I feel the video is more helpful if just starting out. Hopefully some others in the Café will know of a UK source.

The jacket I normally wear has a button front - no zip! Maybe I'll have another search on Google and see what comes up - couldn't find it at the dealers I normally purchase from though.

Bilz- visit http://www.magicweek.co.uk and post a message in the 'wanted' section for the video. I occasionally do this for items I can't find and always recieve a number of good replies as this is a UK based site.
I own the Pat Page booklet on the Topit which is ok, but would not be great for beginners to learn from - go for a DVD or video. matthew |

Please excuse my (most likely) dumb question but I would like to know if a vest can have a topit installed. I am interested in the use of a topit but I don't wear sports coats. If my family or friends ever saw me wear a suit while performing, they would know that something was up, I am a Levi and T-Shirt kind of guy.

From my somewhat limited knowledge of the subject so far I can tell you that a topit can be installed in an open shirt - I believe I've read of one being used in a 'loud' Hawian type shirt before which might suit you better then a jacket. I'm sure someone else can give you a more accurate answer and point you in the right direction! Bilz

I can't see why you couldn't put a standard topit in a denim jacket. The thing you should be aware of the most would probably be the fabric you make it of. I would suggest to find a fabric that resembles the fabric of the pockets. (The thinner sort that the "bag" of the pocket is made of.) This might even let you open the jacket without anyone noticing that the "pocket" looks different.
There are also denim jackets with very wide pockets on the sides. My fiancé Vibono Magic had one, wich he later gave to me. If you tuck a piece of the upper part of the pocket into your pants or safety pin it to your pants it makes a good enough Davenport topit. About Pat Page's topit video. I belive Vic Pinto's rights to sell the video was bought up by L&L Publishing of the U.S. I suggest you try to find it at Repro Magic in London, they have had it.
