The number one rule of all entertaining is "don't wear out your welcome." You should always leave your audience not quite satisfied and wanting to see (or hear, or taste depending on the art) more.

I read a great article recently on importance of making the client feel good as they are paying you. Pre and post performance contact is as crucial as during the performance.
