I have very little interest in card effects. I have essentially no skills with cards. I perform primarily mentalism.
I've just contracted with a company to work a multi-day trade-show. One of their hand-outs is a deck of cards and I just got a few of them in the mail. They want to know if I can use the deck in the presentation. While I don't "have" to, I think it would be seriously beneficial to integrate their promotional pieces into my work (and intrigue the prospects into picking some up). The cards are completely custom printed by them: - the backs are completely white with the company logo appearing in the middle 1/3 - the faces are numbered (like regular cards - A, K, 2, 3, etc) but the faces are completely covered in individual and unique colors (color coding system for their products). My question: What fast and easy effect could I do with this deck? Something easy but will lead itself to a larger presentation. I don't care how basic of a suggestion you give as long as it will get the job done and is a decent fooler. A basic force method or whatever. After all, the presentation is the important thing here. Any suggestions? Point me in the right direction? Thanks! |

Since the supply of cards is not as issue, perhaps making your own TOD deck to use for an effect. Since you are seemingly using the same deck as you'll be giving away it should take any heat off of yours if you present it right. The other idea is a deck memorization routine ala Cassidy. Good luck

Mick Ayres has some great card stuff.
You might say reality is the result of complex negotiations between the observer and the observed. But that is simply a point of view.
Many Thanks Garrad |

How many different colors?
With a 5 color deck you could do an ESP deck style reading, replacing the symbols with colors. Quick, simple, classic 5 card set. Have the person open the deck themselves, shuffle, cut, deal out the 5 cards face down and hold the deck. You turn over the cards one at a time and do the read. Can be a simple color read, or a color and number read combo to make it a little more rich. When you are done they take the deck and a story with them when they leave. Cheers Frank |

If you have the decks now, you could make up a few gimmicks. I think that would be really good because I have all the time in the world to make my bicycle gimmicks but if you have ones made on those specific cards people will really believe it.
some fast mentalism can be done with cards, not the usual stuff depends what you are looking for and how much If you are really looking for stuff PM me and I can tell what I might use, might not be your type of thing but I can tell you though be warned, I don't have much experience but the effects I use are still good

What a great problem to have!
TOD is an obvious choice, especially if you can get your hands on a couple more decks! Cassidy's Memorized Deck would make a nice closer too. Koran's Five Star would also work... especially if you could pay off the force with a company message or contact person. Good luck d

I would certainly second the TOD idea. Make up at least a couple of different configurations using the provided cards. Simple to perform, easy to understand, involves a crowd, easy to repeat (provided you use different configurations).
The standing/sitting issue is easy enough to deal with (raise your hand/drop your raised hand.....or you could create branded placards for participants to raise when you name their card) e |

Thanks guys. TOD does seem like a good option from what I know of it.
Any resources available to learn more on TOD? I know the basic premise and the very general idea of what's happening but would like to make sure that I do this right. Ebook perhaps? This is happening at the end of the month and I'm one that likes to be prepared well in advance whenever possible. I'll also need to have more decks shipped to me (only have 2 decks at this time). I appreciate this. |

Found the Hoy ebook. Will have a look through that.
Please, I'd love to hear other options if you have 'em |

There are a number of quick mentalism-type effects that I use for walk-around, and they require very LITTLE manipulation skill if any. PM me if you're interested. A simple, yet effective routine, using the Stebbins, would be to casually fan the deck, make a few straight cuts, have a spec make a final cut. Then have the spec deal a card to two other specs and one to himself. Then pull the cards from their minds, as quickly or slowly as time allows. |

Perhaps of a useful note - one side of the card box has a full-size cellophane window.

I have to agree with the others on TOD then, and Eric is spot on on the multiple setups fro repeatablilty.

If the cards were larger, a 10 card poker deal would be effective, but not with a regular size deck in a crowd.
One more suggestion for the TOD - just in case someone in the crowd 'messes-up,' either on purpose or intentionally to test you or simply be a jerk....have an ID in your pocket as a back-up kicker (you should even have enough time to create one from the client's provided cards). Repeating tis effect over and over - I guarantee this will occur and it will make you an even bigger hit! |

There's plenty in 13 steps and PME...
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Paul Curry by now! Or Karl Fulves..

Using Richard Osterlind's Breakthrough Card System, you can perform miracles. His "Card Calling" routine is a great one for Stage.

Five Star Prediction, BTCS and TOD are excellent suggestions. Another one would be gaffing the deck for an Invisible Deck routine. You could get a number of people involved and it is one of the most incredible predictions you could do with a deck of cards. The important thing for a trade show is figuring out how to tie the effect to the product your company is selling.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. This has been very informative. I've narrowed things down quite a bit and I know that the solution is close to being chosen. I knew the answer didn't have to be complicated. I am grateful for all of you for your kindness. My success - and the success of my client - will be greater thanks in part to your contribution!
