Any review for this prop ?
Last night I saw a magician use it in a TV show, the effect is quite strong. Any comment ? Thanks for your help. |

What show was this on?

This is one of those props everyone here who owns it raves about. If I could afford to drop that amount of money on a single prop, I'd definitely get one.

Very well made, can be a real stunner! I like it, and use mine to great effect for other things as well as the rope and ring stuff.
Personally, I don't like the way the curtain is attatched. Eventually it will "wear" and not close properly. Replacements are available, but is a pain to replace. Instead of being screwed in, it is actually nailed in. Not very convenient. Rope and replacement rings are also available from Dean Dills web site. Although pricey, I give this one a thumbs up, classy piece of equipment! |

Excellent effect. Remember, you are not buying a box that is heavily gimmicked. You are buying a professional routine with the right props. The effect is baffling. It will require practice to perform it deceptively. It is one of my favorite apparatus routines.

Ditto what Rowdy said: beautifully made and a real fooler.
Note that Dean now does the first part with only one hand in the box, an improvement over the two-handed method in the vid. Steve H

If I bought this, would I easily be able to make my own box that suits my style more and looks more impromptu? Maybe one just one made of cardboard that starts off collapsed flat at the beginning. Or a chinese food container. Or... whatever. |

Actually, I don't think paper and cardboard would work at all the way the routine exists (for instance, you couldn't use the weight of the box to pull against the ropes). Not sure if your question was a serious one, but I'd say that you'd surely lose a lot, plus you'd have to re-routine everything. If you've done a lot of magic you should know that sometimes "impromptu" isn't the most desirable quality of a routine. I think you're headed in the wrong direction on this one, LB. FWIW. Steve

I have to agree with Steve. You could make your own out of cardboard, but you'd lose most of what the effect is. I've had mine for a couple of years now and have been nothing but pleased with it. It's a fooler and beautiful workmanship. Yes it's pricey, but it's definitely worth it.

This is a great prop and a great effect!
Your part is to come up with a presentation that is equally great. |
