What are some things you feel you can get out of your show (aside from money) that can benefit you later? The things I'm talking about are the one's that can directly benefit your business and contribute to future shows. Since I've finally started doing more shows (not in restaurants or bars) I've been thinking about this more. What are your thoughts? Here are some that I've come up with:

Potential future clients
Pictures
Videos
Ads for the event that feature your name
Your name mentioned on a clients web page
Recommendations/word of mouth
Video Testimonials
Newsletter subscribers (if you have one)

Those are just some I came up with. I'm curious as to what everyone else aims to get out of a show.

I've been performing for almost 40 years (professionally for 20) and still I try to learn more about my act as it is in front of an audience... where the laughs are, the timing, ad libs.. the things that can't be refined without an audience.

Listening to your audience, both during and after the show, is the most valuable thing you can get from your show.

I'm with Ken & David on this one. I've done thousands of shows, and I'm still learning. Don't take your eye off the ball.

I know that David Breth gets great mileage from modern word of mouth.

He noticed one person posting about him online via his iPhone DURING a show. So he took that idea, and now David INVITES people to do it.

He can even warn them that a great photo-op is coming up so the person is ready to create an instant buzz by sending the photo straight to their online contacts and friends.

As Al says, there will always be a new idea in there somewhere.

What could you say to an audience to get 100 people to do that at once?

On iPhones,
I do this for high school/college shows.

Towards the end of my set, once I know they are all on my side and I've won them over, I say "Alright everyone take out your phones. Now text someone you know about your experience tonight! Thank you all and goodnight!"

And if you're wondering, I have about 75%-100% participation depending on audience size.

Bartering your service in future events if the customer is a business owner.
Taking publicity pictures with the guest if any are popular and famous.
Time to practice new tricks.
Positive feelings of yourself for doing a great show.
A chance to find an pretty assistant for future shows.
Free food offered to you after the show.
Exercise.
A reason to get away from your wife in the middle of an arguement.
