We all know of Houdini the magician, escape artist, and debunker. Less often discussed (and then usually in passing) is Houdini's passion for exercise.
Houdini was a pupil of Physical Culturist Alois P. Swoboda. Swoboda was a reknowned instructor of exercise in his day. He was a pioneer of the method of "Dynamic Tension," Later made famous by Charles Atlas. Oh wow I hadn't even noticed that. Very cool. I love that website.
Beyond magic I think Sandow's era was just tho Golden Age of Entertainment. Vaudeville was the best thing ever. You could see magic, strongmen, dancing, comedy, trick roping... They had EVERYTHING!
