I travel quite a bit and, when appropriate, I like to perform effects for the hotel receptionists as they check me in. This is especially useful when you need to stay at the same hotel for several nights or for several stays as your reputation spreads quickly. I've generally employed packet tricks such as Entourage or B'Wave, but recently, I've begun to get away from those and perform more card-free mentalism. I've used P***** W****** with an Outlaw wallet, which always plays well and a few peeks to obtain secret information, but I would like some more variety in case I'm asked to do more. I am interested in any short routines that might play well in that scenario. They need to be short and punchy -- no more than a minute or two -- and self contained. I don't want to use any props that would seem out of place. But I do want to leave the clerk with feeling of amazement they will immediately share with others. Any help would be appreciated.

Good idea to build rapport and get better service. Maybe even a get gig...
Quick Effects? Predicting your room number seems obvious. Written on paper seemingly beforehand. Cold Reading them? Getting a sudden premonition of the state of their love life, health etc.. That's all I got for now...

Pull out your wallet and credit cards to pay and do Visa Cabaret.
I was once put on the concierge floor after showing this effect at the front desk of a hotel. http://homepages.tesco.net/stephen.tucker1/index.htm |

An invisible deck has worked for me in exactly the same situation since I do gigs also as a tour leader and I have to deal a lot with the hotel's staff.
I usually have it with me in my pocket wrapped in rubber bands or in a box, (So no one can touch it while I present the mind part of the effect)and I present it as telepathy. Giovanni. |

These are some great ideas. The room number prediction alone is fantastic! What a great context specific effect. MD sounds like an awesome effect, especially as I've always gotten great results with Color Vision, but $500 is a little out of my price range right now.

A- Room 578? Wow that's wierd, I had 3 numbers repeating in my head all day long, the didn't stop repeating untill I wrote them down. Have a look..
B- Go to the reception counter and ask for a city map, while you do so check the receptionist's name on his badge (Dave). Go and have a coffee, and pre-wright 'Dave will give you room'. Then go back to the counter and freak him out with the voice you kept hearing in your dream.

I believe the reference is to a Max Maven effect from the first volume of Apocalypse. I will have to look it up.
