As you have heard, there is a 'new' deck running around the magic community and once it fails (and it will), the Rider Back 808 will be back in full force. The Magic Apple is doing ANOTHER gaffed card run with the standard 808 backs! The rules are basically the same as they have been in the past:
1) You can't alter the design of the back 2) you can't change around the ace of spades 3) you can't you change anything on the Joker. 4) THe cards do have to remain in the 6 standard colors as well Everything else, should be OK. THe USPCC has lowered it's minimum from 5,000 decks to only 2,500, but the price has gone up on the 'per card' price. Your total for 2,500 cards (all of the same card) is $250.00 ($.10 per card), plus shipping to your home or office! I am going to aim to submit this deck by October 1st (unless I get all the slots filled before then) and hopefully have the cards back 6-8 weeks after that. They should arrive in time for Christmas. If you are interested please let me know ASAP. If you have any questions, please shoot me an e-mail or PM me. Thank you |

What do you mean by "THe cards do have to remain in the 6 standard colors as well"?
Does this refer to the color of the backs? What are the 6 colors? Blue and red obviously, but the other 4 - maybe black, green, orange, yellow? |

What does he mean by "another gaffed card run"?

I think it means that have had USPCC make gaffed cards for them before. USPCC will make them for anybody if you order enough. Magic Apple apparently waits until they have enough work that they will fill the entire grid with their own work. You can submit your own single-card order to USPCC, but until USPCC gets orders to fill all the spaces on their grid, you will be left waiting.

@Failed Magician,
USPC, like most commercial playing card producers, will only print entire decks of cards (not individual cards). So if you wanted to have a custom gaff card printed, you'd have to buy 140,000 cards (2,500 decks x 56 cards). Yikes! To help alleviate this huge minimum order quantity, groups will organize gaffed card decks to be printed. Individuals can purchase a "slot" in the deck and have one of their designs printed. When 56 slots are sold, the deck is printed. Upon arrival, some poor soul goes through all 2,500 decks and gathers all 2,500 of each design. Each set of 2,500 cards is delivered to their designer. @Canadian Guy, One weekend I made my own blue and red force decks -- sorting just 104 decks felt like an impossible task. I can't imagine sorting 2,500. Please tell me you have some machine that does the sorting for you? I'm envisioning some kind of modified card shuffler, perhaps. George |

I have a complete system for sorting. This is the 12th run I have done with the USPCC. I have printed cards for practically EVERY magician that has a gaffed card! Name it, I have done it (for the most part)
there are SIX total colors that are avaialable: Back Blue, Back Red and then all the colors in a Royal Card (J,K,Q) PM if you'd like a card or two...or even 5 |

Hey George, thanks a lot of the explanation. So it won't matter if I only order a deck with ANY design I want?
Let's say if I want to get some refills for Strange Traveler, where or how do I submit the design so it will meet my specific needs? One more thing, so I will pay for each card?

I still have slots available if anyone needs gaffed cards. I'll need a HARD COPY of the card along with a pdf file of both sides.
If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail: MagicAppleStore@gmail.com It is $250 (plus shipping to you) and you'll get about 2,500 of your card! |

Sorting is really easy. All you do is you take the first deck and perfectly faro it into the second. Then you do the same with decks three and four a.s.o. You have now reduced the 2500 decks to a mere 1250 double sized decks where you always have two of the same cards next to each other. Now you faro two of the double-deckers together and you repeat this 625 times leaving you with just 625 quadruple decks. From here it should be easy to figure out how to proceed with more faro shuffles. It is quite straight forward. The real benefit of all this is that you will know how to faro after you are done. If the increasing deck size causes you any trouble I recommend stretching exercises for your fingers. You can hold quite a lot more cards than you think you can. For further questions please consult the literature.

2500 cards sounds ok but 2500 deck sounds scary.
Doing Faro on 2500 decks? That's dedication.

I must have missed it here but WHY is U.S. Playing Card Company getting rid of the Rider Back 808's in the first place? Just seems dumb to me.

Due the alteration of its back design for some gaff cards. Might create problem for copyright in the future. That's from what I understand.
So with the 809, we are allowed to do any custom design on the cards.

The USPCC is not getting rid of the 808 back. It is just going to make sure there is no further production of cards which have any alteration to the back of the 808 or to the faces of the jokers and the ace of spades. Those are the design elements in the deck they need to protect so even USPSS will no longer produce anything modifying those elements. They created the 809 design so that magicians would have an alternative but similar card.

Canadian Guy,
Are you selling any full decks of the 54 different cards that people have submitted? I would be interested in buying one (sight unseen)for a reasonable price (i.e a bit cheaper than Ellusionist). Cheers Groucho |
