Brett -
I didn't notice your question, sorry. The version you see in the demo involves no palming, and no card control. It uses a normal deck, as well. In other words, the gimmick does pretty much all the work. Of course you will need to get used to how the gimmick operates, but no, there is nothing difficult. Having said that, magicians who like to cop cards can also use MEMENTO as a card-to-wallet type location. The loading of the card is lightning fast, and there is zero delay as the hand goes to the pocket (I use the pants pocket) and removes the block with the card on display. It takes only as long as it would normally take to remove a card from the pocket. I did not put this version on the promo video, as it requires a cop, but for those who do the move, this prop is a great thing. Magicians who want to use a non-normal deck can create a situation where a selected card is tabled face up, then a matching duplicate is revealed in the block. I don't think this is necessary, but, as I said, with minimal fiddling this is a version that can be performed. Again, this is a coincidence/prediction effect, or a card transportation effect such as card-to-pocket or card-to-wallet. The effect is over when the card is revealed in a place that is surprising. If you currently end your card-to-wallet routine by stopping the show and having the audience examine the wallet, then no, you don't want MEMENTO. Others, however will use this elegant prop in a variety of ways, such as producing the loaded block from a wrapped gift box, a nest of boxes, etc. |

Darn, I thought the card actually materialized in the middle of the block (aka a star trek transporter beam) but I guess that would cost a lot more and be very large. Still, looks like a GREAT effect and I plan on getting it.

I think the effect is great, IMHO as a prediction truly wonderful. So I couldn't resist to order it. Although I think to know pretty precise how it's done the possibility (mentioned by David between the lines, hi David by the way, nice to see you finally next year over here in Germany as my good friend Michael Doermann just let me know... I think it's overdue already since long time to see you here...) to let the spectator holding his favorite card in his hands and still to be able to show his favorite card inside the block is what made my day and me thinking already about variations... Great idea, David! Jan

I to took the plunge and ordered this, I am sure I will not be let down, knowing that David puts out some great products. I love buying utility devices such as this to see what I can formulate with it.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

I knew there was a crack in the continuum, it's just something Wizards can sense. Now the difficult part...waiting!

I asked Wayne to put together a straight-through performance of MEMENTO. You can find it here:
CLICK, BABY, CLICK I'm getting so many questions about MEMENTO. My current (writing) job has me crazy busy, so here are some answers: a) Yes, any card can be selected. b) I use a regular deck, but if you choose not to, it's a simple matter to table the free selection then show a matching card in MEMENTO. c) I perform MEMENTO as an impossible prediction, the effect is the MATCHING. Consider MEMENTO akin to revealing a prediction in a beautiful isolated frame. d) Yes, you can do MEMENTO as a signed-card-to-pocket effect...only the card isn't just in your pocket, it's in MEMENTO! There is zero hesitation if you choose to perform this version - seriously - it takes as long as it would normally take to remove the clear block from the pocket. e) No, you do not need to palm. The version I teach is with NO PALM, and it is a very slick method. f) Yes, you can cop the card if you want (as in the case of card-to-pocket) and have the card end up in MEMENTO. I think I've covered the majority of the questions! David |

No palming? great! Can the signed card to Memento be performed like the predicition effect in the video or does it have to go to your pocket? Is it possible to give the spectator their signed card after(without the memento block of course)? Thanks.

It's an option for those who want to cop a card and perform a card to pocket type effect, with MEMENTO removed from the pocket, the signed card on display. * To remove the card on stage one would have to expose the gimmick, however it could be done in the pocket, with the card handed to the spectator as an afterthought. I have done MEMENTO as a climax to an ambitious card effect, and my patter justifies keeping their card. It goes along the lines of "This time with you has been special, and I want to keep a memento of it all on my fireplace mantle...I think this will look nice there." I then produce MEMENTO from the pocket with the signed card on display, and the moment is fantastic. |
