Who would have thought that one of Magic's most esteemed dealers had a branch office in, of all places, Green Bay Wisconsin?
While rummaging around in my basement, I found an old Thayer Quality Magic Catalog, and inside it was printed..."Midwest Branch Office....Green Bay, Wisconsin." I live in Green Bay which is the original home of the Larsen family before they moved to California...... Just another interesting, but useless, "Magic Factoid". |

Thanks, I never thought about them having an office in the midwest.
What's the date on the catalog?

It's Thayer's Catalog No. 9 Volume 3, published in 1943. As you may know, the Larsens purchased Thayer's Quality Magic from F.G Thayer in 1942. The inside printing says..."Franz J. Massopust, Mgr. 216 E. Walnut St. Green Bay, Wis." Inside, on page 20, I see an ad for Thayer's "Dr.Q" Spirit Hand for $20. These old catalogs are interesting. |

Great. Thanks.
Catalog 9 had five volumes plus a book catalog if I recall right. Since you live in Green Bay why not travel to 216 E. Walnut St. and see whats there now and post a picture. That would be cool. I'm gonna see if I can find out more. I consider myself a disciple of FLoyd Thayer but for the love of magic, I overlooked the Green Bay reference.

You're right...Volume 3 of Catalog 9 is the Mentalism, Mindreading and Spiritualism catalog. I had no idea either that Thayer's had a Midwestern office here in Green Bay, until I found it in this catalog........maybe I will take a picture of 216 E. Walnut Street and post it...or maybe a Google maps reference... I have been a student of the art of magic since 1956........magic is the first love of my life.....and I'm STILL learning things... |

Is this when the Larsen sold the business to the guy who never paid for it? Phil Swartz would probably know the answer.

It was Clayton Jacobsen from Traverse City, Michigan. However, he never did anything with it and it reverted back to the Larsens who sold it John Daniels.
