Thanks Chad, I had a Zoltan Swami floating head in a globe I bought two years ago which matches the Alexander posters perfectly. I also bought a haunted picture frame which I put a picture of Houdini in every now and then it moves on the wall. Next I'm going to get a set of books that move on their own on the shelf. Once I pay off the reanimator I have a spot for that too >;)

It was a lot of fun putting it together and having all my stuff organized in one spooky place. My kids absolutely love it.

Your magic room looks like a lot of fun and creative too. I bet your kids do love it.

I just figured out that the board uses BBC code (duh):
Image

The swami on the top of the bookcase talks, the small busts on the shelves also talk.
Eventually I'd love to get my hands on another swami the one that allows you to use a microphone or figure out how to hack the one I have to play prerecorded custom messages. Then I could have it do a mindreading effect. That would be awesome. The top left bookcase is for my reanimator when I pay that off >;)

Image

Corner shot with plasma ball on, to the right out of the shot (I'll take some more soon) I have a picture with Houdini in the frame which moves and sways on the wall when activated along with some lenticular pictures that change from people to ghosts.
Image

Rear shot with various posters I had made up, simply clipped off the webbrought the file to officemax and had them blow up the big ones cost $14 the small ones $1.60

Great job!!! The green walls and the wooden bookcases accented with the curtains look fantastic… turn of the century cool.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed all the pictures.

Totally Narley Man!

Very Bodacious indeed.

As magicians we create what onlookers call magic. If they truly believe in what we have created for them to witness then magic is real!!!

Thanks guys, here's the links to some of the items I used:

Office max book cases $69 each x 3
http://www.officemax.com/office-furnitur......d3030572

Desk, very nice desk not too big just enough for a close up mat and lamp with a little room to spare. It has a fold down drawer which slides out from under. This makes a nice servant.

Plasma ball

Swami is no longer available.

Moving books on a book shelf my next buy:

This is a really cool picture frame that sways on the wall and laughs. I put a picture of Houdini in it and I'm thinking of cutting the speaker wire so the demonic laugh does not go off every other minute.

Lenticular pic's I picked the milder of the bunch:

Michaels craft store http://www.mic.michaels.com/
Michael's has some dynamite decorations. Small skulls on stands, creepy candles, and some awesome small boxes that look like little trunks to keep different act's in. I also snagged a great looking book that looks like a leather book but is actually a box that can hold more props.

This is my wish list my G.U.P (grand ultimate plan)
Peppers ghost in a mirror;

Animated door knocker

This couples eyes are supposed to follow you always wanted that!

Candelabra
http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/a......delabra/

These two drop down (spider/bat) are remote controlled I thought it might be a fun idea to hack them and put the remote under the desk. Force a card then have the bat or spider drop down with their card. I have to see if they are too big my ceiling is only eight foot. But this could be very cool.

Owl and crow and other decorations

This was cool for atmosphere.

Shrunken heads in a bottle

Gotta eventually get this you plug in the lamps and can have them flicker on an off.
http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/l......h-sound/

And eventually a faux fireplace.

Gotta hit the lotto!

Looks like you are enjoing your space. I like the colors that you chose.

I would like to make some suggestions. Learn some texture/faux and aging techniques readily available on line or at book stores. While Spirit Halloween stores are a fun place for Halloween party items, they can look too plastic or kitchy out of the box. For example: Put the door knocker on some salvaged wood that looks like a door panel, texture and age the knocker and put it in a shadow box. To me, things look more magical when they look like found objects. This could be the difference in the knocker looking like "batteries required" or an antique knocker that might have signaled the entrance to a haunted house.

I would also scavenge resale shops or even big trash day for old furniture and lamps. Furniture that looks as if it has a history can make a huge difference in setting the right mood.

The fake crows can be a great accessory but only if they look like actual taxidermy not as is. I would consider removing the light up and sound portions. You might want to buy some taxidermy eyes, get an old branch and mount it high on the wall.

I think that not everything has to light-up, move or make noise. Those books that you like are cute but maybe getting or aging old books might make a better effect. If you absolutly are sold on the movement, you can buy them and use the mechanism on books that actually look haunted or magical.

Thanks Vanity, I agree with over doing it with the light up effects that's why I'm hacking into a lot of them and cutting the speaker wires and such.

I'd love to get a nice red leather wing back chair it will have to go on my wish list for now till I recoup what I spent.

Definitely have to 'brush' up on my aging techniques I've been loitering at Micheal's crafts looking into some techniques.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sure thing.

I have taken an old fabric wing-back that I found at a resale store for next to nothing and painted it black with some interior satin house paint. I sanded the corners of the fabric where it would have had natural aging and when I was finished, it looked like old crusty leather.

One of the easiest texture aging technique is to get some watered down school glue and paint it over the surface that you wish to age. You then get some tissue paper, toilet paper or paper napkins and place them over the wet glue. Let it dry then paint a base coat with the color of your choosing. Once that dries, you get brown shoe polish; (the kind that comes in the sponge bottle) and paint the object with it. Use an old rag so that you can manipulate the paint for the desired effect.

Send me a message if you need me.

Thanks Vanity those are some great idea's. I will look at the books when they arrive and see if they look authentic enough if not I'll give them some aging. I don't want to make it too creepy my kids will have nightmares >;) so a little campy I don't mind. I found since all of these devices are sound activated it can get little crazy with everything going off at once or setting each other off. I found that many of these Halloween devices have a try me button or the plug for one. I ran a wire from underneath my table under the rug and up into one of the devices and it's pretty cool I can now simply push a button under the table and activate the device. I plan on doing that with the books if possible. I can control some of the animations from my secret control center.

Once I get it all up and running I'll figure out which effects they can enhance.

Julie, I know you can't be talking to me. And what does this have to do with the topic? This should be a PM between you two (ssucahyo I'm guessing).

That is exactly how I envisioned all magic shops should look like as I was growing up! Smile

Thanks Chris me too, and it's just 8 1/2 by 11 feet (less than half my garage, kids own the other half). I love working on this, my kids love it and it's getting me more focused on magic which I've put on the back burner for far more longer than I wanted to.

Got my haunted books. They are nice. I've got to dirty them up a bit but they are perfect. Just the right amount of animation and sound not over done. Now I have to figure out how to wire it to my desk (command central).

I'm going to post a video tomorrow to show the effects hook up.

I'm glad you folks are enjoying it too.
