While not a movie I would just like to mention the novel by Koontz, "Twilight Eyes". Pretty good and scarey from what I remember. Read it a long long time ago, but I do remember it had a carnival theme.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

...and two more books:
"The Pilo Family Circus" by Will Elliot (a unique work of....fiction?) and the great "Circus Parade" by Jim Tully (from 1927... recently republished, a great memoir of his time with a mudshow) Love to hear about more movies, I've seen almost all of those mentioned so far and will track down some of the others. |

As for book and movies, Nightmare Alley. A great book and decent movie. In many ways, I'm living it.

Talking of Vampire Circus - a new film called the Vampire's Assistant is a Carnie/Freakshow/Vampire melange.
Also how about Wizard of Oz. The wizard himself is a snake oil salesman fleeing from the storm. Here is one more.....Freaked (1993) less carnie, more like a Freakshow on acid. Finally Sante Sangre, religious horror movie with Spanish Circus amputee.... |

Speaking of TV... pardon the voice of a new comer to the topic and tell me if I'm wrong...
But wouldn't a lot of the episodes of "Friday the 13th: The TV Series" qualify?

I have a copy of a movie called " Freakshow " it claims to have been banned in 43 countries, and is done ' in the tradition ofTod Browning's FREAKS.
European film with so-so acting but good special effects at the graphic finale'. Produced by Asylum Entertainment Directed by Drew Bell Kotah |

I second the recommendation for Something Wicked This Way Comes. The Bradbury adaption of his short story Dark Carnival was one of my favorite movies as a kid.

If you happen to pick up the DVD of Freaks, you will find an extra section on there with one of the Café's VIPs talking about the people in that moving and giving other background info about the film.

Freaks has a "creep vibe" that sticks with you.
HBO's Carnivale was pure mesmerizing and Nightmare Alley is one of the greats! With such a colorful background for storytelling, I'm surprised more movies aren't crafted around carnivals. Oscar |

There are some great movies on this list but one that recently came out that deserves to be on here is called Warriors Way. It's a western that takes place in this old circus town and this ninja shows up. Fights between cowboy outlaws, ninja assassins, and circus performers ensue. It's not The Godfather but its a lot of fun.
Revolutionary but gangster
