Having thought about it more, I suppose I only really need a way to re-frame the choice they make (of heads or tails) to effectively make it not seem like too much of a miss. Half the time they will say the one I want (and the one I know is correct!), and the other I can say something like, "Close. You probably over-thought it. I think it's actually tails..." Except that's pretty unconvincing--I need an 'out' that still has a bit of believability/impact.
I've considered asking them to drop the coin into my hand to show the side they named (as opposed to the reverse side, which is what would show if they opened their hand normally) but this seems like a bad example of the magician's choice. Why would anyone show the side of the coin in this way? |

Borrow a quarter, flip it, ask them to call heads or tails, catch the coin, t---b it and slap in down on the table. You're correct every time.

Indeed. However, such a method can't really be used within the context of my original post. To reiterate, I will know which way up a coin is in their closed hand. I want to somehow make them say which way up it is, so I either need to force them to say the correct answer, or I take a gamble, telling them to open their hand when they happen to be right, or do something else if they happen to be wrong. It's HOW to force the right choice, or WHAT the something else could be that I'm pondering over.

The point is that the Spec does not know which side of the coin is facing which way and cannot conceive that you somehow already know (and, even if you did, how that would matter, since the Spec is given the choice to call H or T). Therefore, that gives you complete freedom to have the Spec reveal the side you want in any natural way you want. Some people naturally slap the coin onto the other wrist or table to reveal the coin flip. Others would just naturally open their hand to reveal the side. A convincing Equivoque can be developed from this.
Good luck! CM

VictorUnNettoyeur - I sent my idea to Patrick Redford seems he had very similar thoughts. This idea will be included in the book I've been compiling for many years, Mr Redfords thoughts will be available far sooner in his up comming book and will certainly be worthy of your attention.
I believe the idea will suit your needs perfectly! :)

I thought the idea was that we don't discuss methods in this forum, because it's public, but only in 'Inner Thoughts'? There's an awful lot of method-related stuff in this thread.

I became interested in the coin in the hand game after seeing the clip of db on you tube and quickly purchased Patrick Redfords Prevaricator last Christmas. It's a great DVD and the head on camera shots are a great learning tool.
Coin in hand has become my favourite effect to perform as it just feels so real. There's quite a unique buzz in doing it too, something that you just don't get if you're using a gimmick to let you know where the coin is... plus, my performance is far more natural as my timings are all based on the spectators reactions , there's no acting or magical nonsense... I'm actually doing what I say I'm doing. That said I'm probably running a 80% success rate with coin in hand so my follow up routine needs to be very strong in case of failure... Therefore I usually go for a coin bend. |

Sorry I went way off subject with above post... What I meant to say was that world magic shop has a new DVD all about heads or tails...

If I remember right, Nefesch had a nice routine along these lines. I believe it was also impromptu, or aspects of it were, at any rate.

I could be wrong, but I think that 'Midas' can do this. But not sure since I don't actually own it - it may be another e******** device I'm thinking of
