Has anyone seen this book or know the contents of this book?

I just received the book and have to say it is a little different than what I anticipated.
It's a soft cover publication with 96 pages. One third of the book focuses on restaurant/strolling magic in terms of approaching a table, using agents, promotional advice and so forth. The remaining two-thirds concentrates on effects. While I have yet to try these on for size, I would make the initial comment that the author assumes the reader to have a very good knowledge of sleights and moves as well as a decent library and he frequently refers to other sources without outlining the information. One example of that is "You Don't Know Jack" which is based on Close's "The Frog Prince". Andrews' does not provide instructions for making the frog, so unless you have Workers 2 or Close's video, you are not going to get very far. In a nutshell, the book does not spoon-feed the reader. This is working material in that the author uses it and the reader will have to put a bit of effort into working through some of the effects. Those who are not prepared to do that will probably pass this book by and miss a few gems in the process.

As the producer and publisher of Carl Andrews' Magic from Maui, I thank Gary Mason for his review, particularly in his regognizing that it is "working material." Space was not taken up in explaining the Frog fold as this is described in many places, such as several origami books as well as magic sources including "Workers" by Michael Close. However most if not all sleights, handling and moves will be found in the book. When readers work through it they should find effeective and delightful routines.

I saw Carl in action at a convention some years ago, and his performing style is great!

Having now spent some time on this book I would recommend it. It contains some very inventive material that is both direct and high on spectator impact.
The routines are clearly presented in a business-like manner with useful references for further reading or follow-up. Fans of Sankey's Paperclipped will be interested in Carl's version where the spectators signed card changes colour. Carl essentially takes the effect and elevates it to 'miracle class'.

I found this thread in the way-back machine. After recently re-visiting Carl's book, I have to say that I think it should be praised and kept in the consciousness of Café members. Talk about pure workers. The effects are very practical and very commercial. Clearly a book written by a working pro. Not to mention what is, in my opinion, the best variation on Anniversary Waltz out there. Gaffless, impromptu, borrowed deck. Enough said. Cards, coins, sponge balls (yeah, I know, but laypeople love 'em!), chop cup...I have no idea why I put this aside shortly after I bought it, but after a friend showed me the A.W. variation (Hula-Fusion), then I found out I had the book he got it out of sitting on my shelf...BOY did I feel stupid. This book rocks. No filler.

I agree with LobowolfXXX. While this is not my absolute favorite book, it is full of "workers." In fact, in my opinion, his version of the Anniversary Waltz is THE strongest card effect I've ever seen or performed for laymen. I've made my reputation and a ton of money from that single routine. Do not expect anything revolutionary with regards to the method. It is as straight forward as possible, but is an absolute miracle in the eyes of laypeople.

I know this thread is ancient, I was just wondering whether anyone who had his earlier book (Making a living in magic: Performing at restaurants and hotels) could tell me if this book just repeats that information or has different content.
