Ok,
Don't know why, but came up with this on the spur of the moment. Two magicians talking. One of them says: Are you going to the 1001? The second replies: You mean the one in 55? The first magician says, Yes. The second one says: No, can't make it this year, but I will be at the 65535. What are they talking about? tr |

Clues:
They ARE magicians and mathemeticians. They ARE talking about magical events which one can attend. It is simpler than it looks. Think number systems. The solution to the first two requires a different solution than the last one. The last one is easier if you are a programmer and may guide you to the answer for the first two. Thanks for looking. I thought this was dead, and it's a silly little idea, really. More clues to follow as needed. Cordially, tr |

Okay...the 4th one is FFFF (Fechters), right? (indeed helps having hacked bits a lot!)...the other ones still puzzle me :o?

CORRECT Sourcerer!
FFFF is hexadecimal notation for 65535 used in programming AND Fechter's Finger Flinging Frolic! The other number conversions you were likely taught in grade school and are currently only widely used (to the best of my knowledge) on timepieces and in motion picture credits. Cordially, tr |

Would that be roman numerals? So... 1001=MI and 55=LV... Magic Invitational in Las Vegas...

Alright! Well done, Alessandro!
After reading all the posts about the LVMI that I can't get to this year, it occurred to me that those initials were all Roman Numerals, but as written they didn't make a valid number... The FFFF idea just jumped into my head as I was typing the riddle into the forum message base. In retrospect, I guess I could have included one magician staying for the "100" although I haven't seen the Coinvention abbreviated as just "C"...<S> Thanks to all who played. Cordially, tr |
