I used to get my special cards from Neil Lester (http://www.cardsbymartin.com). Unfortunately, Neil passed away last year and there are a couple of gaffed cards / packet routines he made that were unique. In particular, his English 3 Card Monte in poker and jumbo. Is there anyone out there that can make some customs for me?

Why not roll your own?

http://www.lybrary.com/card_designer/

This is an EXCELLENT tool. I am a graphic artist but I have to admit that Chris has done a bang up job here. I plan to use it for other purposes than "regular" cards, but, with the template, I can load in my original art work and create some really wild stuff.

I am hoping over Christmas to make a few sets of Dingle's "Poor Charlie" for my own use.

Give it a shot Lloydster. You design the card(s), save it/them, order some of the card stock from Chris at Lybrary.com and off to the printer you go! Smile

Namaste,
Vlad

Thanks, Vlad

What Neil would do for the English 3 card monte is delaminate or separate the gaff card and attach part of another card using very thin elastic strip. Unfortunately, I haven't fiqured out how to do this without trashing the card.

Great quality on USPCC stock.

I am also wanting to build the Poor Charlie cards or to have someone else do it for me. Though I am not particular about what is on the backs, I would like them to be high quality poker sized e.g. like Bicycle cards. My budget is around $20 for the set. Is this doable?

E.g. http://www.lybrary.com/card_designer/export/faces73914.jpg and http://www.lybrary.com/card_designer/export/backs70599.jpg

Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M

I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive.

I, too had the late Neil Lester make MANY custom gaffs for me, and they were and are remarkable in the quality of their workmanship. At last year's Abbott's Close-Up convention, I asked Max Maven who I should contact for custom-made gaffed cards and he told me Gary Plants was THE MAN. That's good enough for me.

I bought cards from Neil for many years, as well.

Gary Plant does exceptional work.

And, so does Martini: http://www.martinismagic.com/Products.html

Vlad how do you cut your cards after you've printed them on the card stock? I saw Chris sells a card cutter...but I don't want to pay the $250 it costs.

You would have to very carefully use a guillotine type cutter and a corner rounder but you will still suffer from inferior cuts. Anyone who does a lot of gaffing, the cost is not that much. If you only want a few gaffs, it is better and cheaper to custom order from a pro.

I was afraid of that poof :- Guess I'll just order from a pro for now. Maybe later in life I can consider doing that.

Don't feel bad, I am in the same boat. Smile I do however have the corner rounder from Lybrary.com and a home brew card cutter that James P. Riser posted a couple years ago (how to make) I also dabble in splitting and either gluing or DMT. But all this is just for very basic gaffs. Eventually I will find someone (or a few someones) who use Phoenix Brand cards that want to go in and have the gaff that will work for NFW or Ace custom printed. The price to get 400 is not bad and I think the extras could be re-sold to cover most of the cost. Being on disability has killed my "magic money" but I have a stash started for this and one other project in Phoenix Brand.

Fortunately, the card cutter is still up http://jamesriser.com/Magic/CardTrimmers......ser.html made mine for less than $17 a couple years ago. (made that back "in value" in a week)

It is fantastic for making your own short cards, Mental Photography, svenguli's, strippers, end strippers... (with the added corner rounder) they are perfect. Again, Thank you Mr Riser Smile

I've had Shawn Evans at http://www.mimesis-magic.com/index.html make several gaffs with Phoenix backs for me. They turned out great and only cost a few bucks. I have always supplied him with the cards I wanted whenever I required cards other than Bicycle or Tally Ho.
Some of them involved using "jokers" and I just prefer the standard Bicycle joker to the Phoenix joker.
