Ip ut this at the end fo my last ID thread but I think its gotten buried.
I am getting pretty good with my ID *except* when the target is within the first few cards at the top of the deck. There I have a hard time doing the "move" because the full deck gets in the way of touching the target underneath with my fingertips as I push it across. Im considering in that case just doing a quick cut to move it to the center. What do others do?

I put the "popular" cards in the middle (AS, QH, etc)

It's kind of a shame to have to cut the deck, but I think it's necessary if the card is real close to the top or bottom of the deck. At least that's what I do.

Cyberqat,
A strategy I used to use before adopting the Doug Edwards routine is to tell the spectator to imagine a NOT so obvious card, i.e., make it REALLY difficult for me. The way I had my ID arranged, the high cards were at the ends and the lower ones on the middle. No muss, no fuss no cuts, and they will DEFINITELY think of inconspicuous cards such as the 3D, 6C, etc. Ahimsa, Vlad PS: When I see Robert McDaniel in a thread, it isn't official unless I tell him politely that The Royal Treatment really needs a reprint. It's really an EXCELLENT book. |

I thought the best advice I have read was to lightly moisten the fingers prior to searching for the card. Grab a glass of ice water nearby, etc.
Make a difference to me. I don't set the ID up any special way at all - I just look for the key and take care of business.

Hey Say,
That works for me for every card EXCEPT the top 3 or so.

I dunno, I guess the idea of doing a cut probably makes sense if the first or last cards are a pain.
For the those first cards don't throw me off as much as I agree that discovering the chosen card in the middle looks more interesting visually. Take care...
