HI,

I love HL Oil & Water Routine and will be doing it in my 2nd performance to public (A 10 min table magic at a annual magic dinner).

Anyway.............

I sometimes find it odd that you get a deck out and say here I got some black cards and red cards..
It comes across a bit obivous... that I've done something to know their red and black etc...
I was thinking of having my small black plastic card wallet and putting the needed cards in there.
Take them out as my first trick and say "here I have a few black and a few red cards"
And then crack in routine..

It then gives that feeling that I've divided red and black cards ready for a tric, rather than magicly having some on top of the shuffled/fresh open deck.

What are your thoughts??

Are there any videos of the oil and water being performed?

Are you referring to STING - my royal-flush ending? HL.

If, in fact, it is my The Sting that's being referred to, WazMeister is correct. I perform/teach it on Volume 2 of my 4-volume "Best Ever" DVD set. If you like, you can go to my magic website (last one listed under this post - with the word "magic" in it) to learn more about it. Just click on "Magic DVDs". HL.

If he takes the cards off the top of the deck instead of out of a packet, I am sure there is a reason behind it.

I know there is a certain psychology behind having the cards come from a normal deck. Let us not fool ourselves here, many times when a magician pulls out a packet wallet instead of a regular deck, it sets off a subconscious alarm within the spectators mind. You look much more obvious pulling out a packet wallet than you do a deck that "just happens" to have 3 red and 3 black for the top six cards.

As I am not Harry, I can not testify as to his reasoning behind it, but the above is just one reason I can think of. Also I am not much of a card guy. Nothing against those who do perform with the pasteboards, it just isn't really my style. But for the few card effects I do, I try not to work out of packet wallets if at all reasonable, for the reason stated above.

Dmueller: You are absolutely right. I NEVER take cards out of my wallet, an envelope, or anywhere but from the BORROWED deck itself. HL.
