The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from off the goose.

The law demands that we atone
When we take things we do not own
But leaves the lords and ladies fine
Who take things that are yours and mine.

The poor and wretched don’t escape
If they conspire the law to break;
This must be so but they endure
Those who conspire to make the law.

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
And geese will still a common lack
Till they go and steal it back.

I like protest songs.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

Chumbawumba did a great album of historical English protest songs ranging from the 12th century onward "English Rebel Songs 1381–1914". Some of those songs are very inspirational.

The English have always been a contentious lot, especially when there is social injustice about!

Actually the Gogol Bordello sells out whenever they come to town. The whole audience stands for their entire shows. Remember they are crazy Ukranian gypsy who are only a few years out of the gypsy camp, and their music is so gutsy that they are my new favorite group. In 1963 I thought Bob Dylan sounded like a drunken cowboy.

People love train wrecks Al. The reason they are standing is they are looking for an exit. He sounds exactly like I do when making fun of Eastern Euro folk music!

I'm trying to find a good video of my favorite protest song but all the ones I find have bad sound. People! Stop posting bad video!

Europe? Have you ever seen the back up dancers those people have? I don't care about crowds in Europe!

Oh oh...I just went to see the video in question. Al, are you sitting? Put your bong down I have something to tell you. That is Southern California, which isn't in Europe, and those people were not there to see the gypsies they were there for other bands, it was a music festival. Drunk Californians love odd music. What made you think that was Europe?

Mr. Claus speaks the truth. That whole Coachella thing is my neck of the woods (give or take 100 miles).

It's a pretty good festival...

Hey, here is a Gypsy protest song by a gypsy (Rom) woman....you can feel the pain in her heart as she sings of the struggles her people face:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOSZwEwl_1Q

Here is a traditional Gypsy song from a, well, gypsy band about Europe sung in Gypsian.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMYyxqaaWew&feature=related

who can forget this obscure gypsy song about lost love.....also done in gypsian

I'm sorry guys I just figured that if they are from Europe, and I can't pronounce the name of the festival it must be somewhere in Europe.

Lobo
If all those Southern Californians know the words to "Start Weraing Purple" this music must be somewhat familiar to you.

If you can't pronounce it it is likely California! The audience was singing Freebird.

I was incredibly handsome back in 1966 too. My hair was brown, and I had a 29 inch waist back then. LOL
