I still love watching other people perform, even after all these years....it never gets old. Not quite as fun as performing the show, but, still a great time. Tonight was no exception.
My wife and 2 other couples went together. My wife does not volunteer for the stage, but, goes into a hypnotic state while the performer was doing his induction. I could not get my wife to come back to a conscious state as she was locked onto his voice. I tried multiple times with multiple techniques, however, she is non-responsive to me. I tried to re-induce hoping she would come around to my voice, but, she wouldn't. The perfomer came over and re-induced her and brought her out with no problem. My wife is always like that with me. I can get her induced, but, she is combative with me once she is there. My point in all this, is that in one of Richard Nongard's videos, he talks about how he can not get his family members to go into this state, but, John Cerbone has no problems. Individual perception is very important in this field. I just wanted to share with people starting this art, that, close friends and family members usually are not the best volunteers . Ifyour confidence was damaged by trying to perform on a family member or friend, move outward and away from your inner circle.-Shane

I have two family members who obey 'sleep' and 'wake up' on command but do nothing in between. They say that it feels sooooooo relaxing they simply cannot be bothered to do anything.
I also perform the hypnotic induction on two wives of hypnotists. The wives say that they cannot 'go in' under their spouses. All extremely interesting. In closing, to be fair I have never managed to induce my own wife. Well, not to the point of phenomena that is. Always happy to hear other comments on this. D'ya think she don't trust me???!!!

Bobser,
I think it is a hit and miss issue. I can get my brother, sister and brother in-law into the phenomena state with no problems. My wife and mother I can induce, but, they are non-responsive to suggestions other than wake or sleep...much like your family members. However, my wife is extremely "combative" with me. She will sometimes do the phenomena, but, you can tell she is irritated. Much like your family, she says she is so relaxed, she does not want to be bothered. In fact, when it comes to my sister, all I have to do is stare at her and drop the tone and pace of my voice and she starts to go. She finds it hard talking to me while staring at me. She wonders why she always gets me EXACTLY what I want for Christmas and birthdays!! My wife was following along with the stage hypnotists suggestions with no problem. The only time she follows along for me is when she personally needs help with something... job interviews, relaxation, stress management, etc. Now that I think of it, she is a selfish individual... . As for your wife not trusting you, I am guessing the full body latex suit with the zipper on the mouth may have spooked her.-Shane

has your wife responded to other hypnotists? It might be that shes one of those that just dosn't let go. They do exist. I knew an old guy that was a hypnotherapist but had never experienced any phenomena. He spent a fortune going to other hypnotists in the pursuit of the elusive trance. Although I think he was in trance he just didn't respond to phenmena type suggestions. And Shane it is quite usual that someone that goes into trance in the audience will only respond to the hypnotist on stage. |

MP good point. I think that's it. Not JUST that she doesn't let go but also because she totally and completely understands ME and how I induce. She simply can't get her head away from "Ah he's doing this now, and now he's doing that, then hell say this...etc"
Being aware of all of the above I decided once to change all of that by doing a shock induction half way through. She opened her eyes and glowered at me like Attila the Hun. I was terrified and have never tried that again! But I am quite comfortable to believe that it's possible if Shane and I swapped over for the day we'd be able to hypnotize each other's family members .......................................................................................................... then leave a few suggestions??????

I just find it interesting how someone that is in such an open state of mind locks into one person's voice with accute "tunnel vision".
What I find even more intersting is that she had me locked out, all he would have to do is say " You will also follow Shane's voice and suggestions with enthusiasm " and she would listen to me. Bobser, just tell me what you want me to suggest to her. -Shane

Its done for safety reasons. you don't want anyone in the audience giving someone who is "out" suggestions. And your wife? Sounds like in a swap you might get a bag of sugar or a loaf of bread. Anything else is pushing it. |

A lot of the inductions use verbage such as " ....as you listen to my voice, you will notice you feel more relaxed..." such as this performer's. He never said " You will only follow my suggestions and mine alone...". He is not the only performer I have seen do this....and they all still yield the same results.
I use the words " My voice is the only voice that matters to you. You will hear other voices, but, my voice is the only one that you care to hear as it makes you feel more relaxed. The more relaxed you feel , the more you realize my words and and my voice alone, becomes your reality....."-Shane

Do you think this is why we have the old hypnotherapist thing of "Everyone' can be hypnotised against the obvious fact that with stage hypnosis NOT everyone can be a Somnambulist - using the term to mean *** good subject for stage hypnosis. ? |
