LOL, the illusion began prematurely as soon as he dropped into the box; he lost a good 10 inches right there!

Wow. What a lackluster performance, even if he hadn't completely exposed it (that was just icing on the rancid cake).
This particular Squeezebox is currently on Magic Auction, I noticed. He says it was built by Johnny. Not sure why they went for a base that appears so thick. Why are people doing magic that just seem passionless? I just never understand.

Wow..someone has to much money on their hands. This is the perfect example of building a show with money and not talent!
He has an interesting metamorphasis, but once again lots of money put into it and very little rehearsal time or talent. Must be nice, I suppose. |

In all fairness to Bart, I have seen him perform this illusion and it was very well done. Unlike many of the so-called "illusionists" that post on YouTube, Bart performs only legitimate, licensed illusions. Agreed, this was not his best performance.
I downloaded the video, changed the aspect ratio to what it should be, and the apparent loss of ten inches of height was no longer there. It was simply an "illusion" caused by the out-of-kilter shape of the video.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

The 10 inches James FX referred to had nothing to do with aspect ratio. It had to do with the fact that he pushed the f**e f**t into view before his were completely out of view. It was blatant exposure.

Do we really have to bash about this. It was I am sure a mistake, everybody has them no matter who you are in magic. Bart has had a nice run in Branson and has had a good show. Let's talk magic not bash magicians. My 2 cents.

Clearly it's a mistake, but it appears to be one due to sloppiness and/or apathy. This video is on Bart Rockett's YouTube channel. Why would he wish to advertise such a mistake?

Timing was off, but is this not the same unit that is up for sale on Magic Auction page 2 built by Gaughan? Sure looks the same.

The Illusion that yall are talking about was originally built for Steve Wyrick and then Bart ended up with it.. It's on the Auction now.
Bart has moved to L. A Cal and is no longer in Branson. I had a 5 month run with him here in Branson last year. He's since sold most of the illusions that he once owned. Taylor

This is an email that Bart Rocket sent to me it reads as follows.
From Bart Rockett However, I do work on a regular basis and am passionate about entertaining my audiences. Although I certainly make mistakes and I'm sure could do better in many areas, I must be doing something right because I keep getting opportunities to perform! I came from no money and I have earned every dollar that I have spent on props over the years so I have not had it "handed to me". Unlike many other illusionists, I am constantly changing my show and have rotated illusions over the years so that my audiences are always seeing "something new". As you know I have also created many original pieces that have never been seen outside my live shows. I have never lived my life or performed to try to impress other magicians. Although there are many very nice ones that I have met over the years, I have been shocked at the ones that are not. I have found more opinions, jealousy, and pettiness in some than in any other profession that I know. For those very reasons I tend to just do "my own thing". This has served me well over the years and I have been blessed to be able to enjoy my work, travel the world and make a great living doing so. That being said, I do know how to take an honest critique of my work and certainly welcome anyone who would like to offer such. (Although I would rather them email me directly instead of bashing me on a public forum! LOL) As for the videos on YOUTUBE, I did not have a direct hand in putting those there. My PR firm that handles my public relations materials went through hours of videos of live performances over a 12 year period and put up random segments of my show. These are not magicians and they must have liked the video to post it. I am on the road in Florida today but when I get back to Hollywood I will review the video in question and if I feel it is exposing the illusion then I will certainly ask that they pull it. I'm not sure what show it was from or what the circumstances were. The Squeeze Box itself was not built for me but for Steve Wyrick in Vegas. John Gaughn built it and Steve never performed it in his show. It was part of a "lot" of illusions that I acquired and is currently for sale. It did get a great reaction during the 4 seasons that I performed it live. (Over 1,000 shows). Bottom line is, those that want to be my friend and offer constructive critique's are welcome and those that don't can spend their time complaining and commenting about things as they see fit. I on the other hand will continue enjoying my life, family and opportunities that recently being cast on NBC's PARENTHOOD and in a new Hollywood movie is bringing our way. Thanks again for your good wishes and keeping in touch with us. Wishing you the best . . . Bart Rockett bartrockett.com |
