Hi,

Here is an article from the Scientific American, about Magical Thinking.

Are you a magical thinker?

I have several black cats, step on cracks, don't have any object that I believe hold any powers of luck...so guess I'm not a magical thinker. Although, I do psyche myself up for some task. " I can do this", as mentioned in the article but don't need any external objects to make me believe that.

On the other hand, if I won the lotto then I'd be thinking this is my lucky ticket!

I think this could be a fun premise for a magic or mentalism routine for a scientifically oriented audience. "Even Scientific American says that certain rituals/incantations etc can have a positive effect . . ." There's lot to play with here, tongue-in-cheek.

As a practicing "ceremonial magician" I'd have to say yes...

I don't expect or believe in miracles or superstitions, but "magick" puts me in a proper mental state to be receptive to the subtle influences present in the world (and in my own mind...) that are all too often missed in a "normal" state of mind.

It also helps me to be more open-minded about the, seemingly, strange thoughts that so-very-many people have (and act upon...) all the time!

It helps keep me humble.

Yes I am. Certain kinds of thought help focus, like prayer or setting a spell or writing a list of your goals. I become very attached to my tools and toys.

I live in an animate world where I talk to the car, wish the world well silently, cherish my Magic and use Coffee and Cat feeding to start me off right. Is it superstitious or just a way to get through the day pleasantly? I mean really, Coffee and Cat feeding is a great way to start the day.

I enjoy and believe in science but this is just my natural way of thinking and my approach to life.

I suppose I have a rational belief system and the an underlying true belief that defies my rational belief.
