I have a hard time finding a specific levitation since the "search" is not working. So I thought I would ask you guys directly. What is the name of the levitation when a guy places the large cloth in front of himself as he levitates himself standing up? It is a pack small play big effect. Usually the cloth is already on the floor as the magician walks up to it to pick it up as he hides his legs as he levitates about 12 inches. And who makes it? What is his website?

Mike,
I couldn't be happier with my Magellan. Jimmy has made some incredible improvements to this miracle and is a class act with outstanding customer service! |

Mike!
I truly believe this can be a practical and a spectacular alternative to huge, expensive versions where you need assistants and a full stage. Things like Gamolo, Super-X, even Chair Suspensions can’t touch this for audience reaction. I’ve watched this develop through the different editions and it’s now even more user-friendly. In the right hands, with careful staging and presentation, and conscientious practice, this can be a small but impressive miracle to add to your repertoire. I hear occasional differences of opinion about only one small aspect of the necessary execution and deception level, but this is always from a magician’s stand point. I think so highly of this, I’ve includeed an effective theatrical-presentation in my “Tales of Enchantment” book published earlier this month. I think it solves most every concern for live performance. It does not cost much at all, compared to any other true stage levitation, and you get a lot of technical support from the inventor. Considering this is a grand style Illusion it’s the ultimate in packs-small-plays-big. My two-cents, Walt |

I have seen expensive levitations not do what this does. The original was great. Jimmy has taken this to a new...er...level! OK, that pun was intended, no more groaning...seriously, don't be fooled into taking a knock-off. This new Magellan system is fully developed by Jimmy, and is the only one with the new features that have been incorporated into it:
1. The 3-point stabilization system that allows it to be used on uneven floors and carpeting. -Not only that, but generally more stable support on a flat surface! Very important improvement. 2. A cheat step, that allows for a smooth rise and more comfortable operation. -Another great improvement! This takes practice to look right. After working with this until you become smooth, this is one of the most deceptive parts of this illusion. 3. A transport system for getting into position. -Self explanatory. Plus, Jimmy has taken a big hit on the Magellan Levitation. Lowering the price, and improving it like this! He invented this, got ripped-off by some no-conscience weasel, and had to compete with him! This is the world we live in! Luckily this thief is overseas, or he might have not gotten away with it. I'm just sayin'...At least you know who to buy it from now, and who will give you excellent...er...support! ~cringe~! I'm just full o' puns, ain't I? Doug |

Walt and Doug hit it right on the mark!
Walt and I discussed this at length offline once and I must say, he has some beautiful ideas about this effect and its presentation. He's put a ton of thought into it! I must admit, I prefer to close with it to music, but before I do, it's a great excuse for me to give my thank yous and deliver my uplifting (pun intended Doug ) closing speech and drive home the fact that anything is possible to my audience. When I drop the foulard, I can hear the gasps OVER my music which is usually quite loud! One thing for sure...Jimmy has created something substantial here and it is destined to be a classic. IMHO with it's pure organic nature, monster impact, and the fact that you can do it yourself BY yourself with a one man trip to and from the truck (mind you), it is the most significant thing to come along for levitations and/or suspensions since the Super X. OK, now everyone please ignore this thread...especially you Mike. I want to be the only illusionist in MI performing this! Just kidding of course. Jimmy deserves to sell a million of these! Well I’ve put my money where my mouth is, and I’ve got the latest version of Jimmy’s levitation being shipped to me.
After seeing the in’s-and-out’s of his process and versions, I know this well thought out model will be a hit. I can’t wait to work with it, applying my story-presentation. To shift any attention far from the method. I think I’ll be “floating on air” when I master it, and so will my audiences. Magically, Walt |

I'd love to see what you come up with, story presentation-wise. This is a perfect make-it-your-own effect that really has possibilities. If I could have bought one, I would have had a great Halloween idea! Maybe next year... |

Ha! The presentation is already in the Illusion chapter of my book, so you'll be able to read it yourself when you get that far in. It's not only the routine, it's the theory behind it. Walt

Walt I cannot wait to see the mysteries revealed in that book! I am SO looking forward to that! We have talked about stuff, and I know your knowledge transcends average magic! You are a true "seeker". Your signature says it all:
"Spinning tales and weaving enchantment!" The book's title: "Tales of Enchantment"! Very interesting! It invites curiosity! The Art Of Magic is a better place because of you and other "seekers". You, however have published a book! It is destined to become a classic of Magic! You have studied levitations for more than 30 years! So have I. I think you are way ahead of me though. I never really went anywhere with it. The most elaborate thing I did, was I built a 1/12th scale model of the David Copperfield/John Gaughan "Flying" Illusion. It was made of brass, styrene plastic and I.T.. It got destroyed in one of my many "moves". It was kinda lame anyway. It took almost six months to build. Many projects ago! LOL! My best effort was the AstroSphere! I found out my ideas were already being used! MY whole routine was done move for move by Selene in her video I posted in The Feminine Mystique and Grand Illusion sections! Jimmy's levitation is ingenious! Self contained, portable, and high tech-cutting edge! Ya know, I've never even seen it! It was described to me in detail, and I pretty much understand it. I am so glad you got one! I hope every magician that is really serious about doing a lev, buys one! :) |

There’s been tons of reviews on the Magellan Master Levitation, and I’ve put in my two-cents before as Jimmy’s shared his journey with me, that said:
I am now the very happy owner of the newest generation of Jimmy Finger’s Levitation. Yes, the new stabilization system, along with the new lift system, and the new non-flex assembly, have improved an already stunning Illusion. The updated teaching video is detailed, and Jimmy is always open to talk if you have questions. It’s almost $600 cheaper now, and this first-class magic was worth the original $1,500. The magic is very startling and quite deceptive to a lay audience. It’s best to keep this simple, don’t muck it up with lots of fancy stuff. Just walk on, rise, walk off to applause. I’m now looking for just he proper, subtle music to create a perfect mood, and I’ll be using the left-to-right brain technique and presentation from my new book. If you’ve always wanted to “float on air” this is a quality crowd pleaser, better and cheaper than ever. Just ask Santa and get yourself a huge stocking… Magically, Walt |

Mike, I've seen this levitation, and Jimmy showed me how it worked. It is amazing. Pure genius. You can't loose buying one of these. It will be your show stopper and can play in huge number of venues. Worth 5 times what Jimmy charges for it.

Congrats Walt, I'm so happy you finally took the plunge! I know you'll do it justice and I think you'll find it's almost as fun practicing as it is performing! I sometimes get really bad vertigo looking in the mirror fooling myself and thinking I'm really floating. Careful doing this!!!
Doug, you WILL own one of these and when you do, I'll be as excited for you as I am for Walt. Enjoy and happy floating all! Christian |

Hey guys,
I'm performing the Magellan tomorrow for about 200 people at a benefit. I'm doing this one as a straight up levitation. Did the same act a month ago for my kid's school fundraiser function for about 300 parents and middle school kids. Kids were running out the door after the show, yelling to their parents that "that guy just flew!" THAT's the kind of reaction you want to hear. Pure gold to the ears.

Somewhere on this site I have a post asking for the best illusion for under $2000.
I think this is it. I'll be getting one soon. |

Remember this is $500 dollars less than the price it is worth now.
Worked with colleague David last night exploring possibilities with the Levitation. He came up with killer, innovative theatrical ideas that brought the floating and upward movements to a whole new level. We've also worked on ways to greatly enhance the deception, and worked up a presentation. The actual levitation is 75 seconds long, long enough to be extremely effective but brief enough the audience can't reconstruct what just blew them out of the water. Found perfect music with a lilt and a build that strengthens the floating with a crescendo. Also discussed a cloth addition that aids ease of handling and consistency. Wow, no matter how many times you do this is looks very real. Oh, one last thing, wear lighter colored trousers so there is a contrast between your legs and the black foulard, then they see the significant distance between you and the cloth when floating. Magically, Walt |

The contrast of the trousers is a great idea, and I wish that I didn't always like to wear black ostrich shoes and black wool pants. However, it looks pretty good with my dark clothing. But, WOW, I've really seen some pics of guys doing it in brightly colored shoes and pants, and it really 'pops'! Makes the performer appear closer to the audience, and the cloth further away, almost disappearing. You just have to see what the contrast does to the illusion! Makes me really tempted to buy that zoot suit...
For pictures, sometimes the whole black on black really flattens out, but live, the audience can really pick up on the depth, even with black/black. I think that's because 'live' it's in HD };)> Jimmy |

I appreciate everyone's comments on the Magellan, but is there a video out there anywhere of a real "presentation" (not just a "performance")? I am sure it is a high-quality item, and I would really like to justify the purchase of one, but I honestly have not seen anything yet on video that "sells" me.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...
