Stopped again today, in Bavaria, reminded me of an idea I thru out two years ago,.. while shuffling from one hassle to the other in Bavaria,.... Black List Towns. (you´ll find the Post somewhere amongsts August 08, I believe.)
At that time, most thought, "gosh, just what the towns would like!" ,... hmm, new thoughts,..... before we talk about the `Ethic´, let´s talk about the possiblities,.. ours. Munich, for example, will be hosting the EJA Convention 2011 (European Jugglers) 6000 folks are expected. Should Jugglers, a third of whom are Buskers,.. a third of whom dream of Busking,... meet in a town where Busking ` controlled is´,... for example? Should The Magic Zirkel hold it´s Convention in Heidelberg,... for example,... where Buskers have been physically deported? (i for one.) Let´s think big. Bayern where Busking, in Germany, is the most "controlled" (oppressed), is vying for the Winter Olypics 2018. Don´t laugh. As China the Olypics HAD, Busking was forbidden in most of China. A letter sign by 10 Buskers to the IOC pointing out the problem,... and 4 weeks later, the streets were open!!!,.. granted, they were closed again, immedialely after the Olypics left town. Still, should Bavaria, for example be granted the Olypics to begin with?,.. hey, even a little dirt, is dirt! Secondly,.. instead of `Boycotting´ towns, what if we peacefully shut a town down?,.. in a critical moment. Again, theoritically, Munich, the opening day of the Ocktoberfest, 50 well positioned Street Artist begin playing at various intersections,.. no, IN the intersection. As well as train station and subway stations. I think we could create an interesting `point of dicussion´. hey, I´ve only been playing with the idea 5 minutes!,....!! Ethics. First WE establish what WE consider "Ethical Street Performing". Secondly, we establish what we consider "Ethically Tolerable City Controls". ,... then we impliment. ".. take it to the Streets". possible?,.. thoughts,.. ideas,...? sorry, my battery ´s going dead, laying low,.... and breathing heavy,,.. with a smile on my face. gallagher |

Some good points, but it would take a lot of organization and cooperation from the juggle and busker community.
Blocking traffic is a really bad idea, you will only alienate buskers from the local community. I would do the opposite, instead working against the people, I would work for the people by giving free shows at children's hospitals, schools, community centers or wherever I would be most effective to produce a positive image. I am not expert, but I think an examination of the German cultural would help to understand their reaction to street performers. What is the history of street performers within Germany? What is their objection? Are busker seen as performers or panhandlers? If I am not mistaken Germany is like a lot of European countries were they actually have a budget for live performances. You may want to examine that area before you go on with any negative demonstrations. It may be a case of educating the local or national government on what busking really is. JerryB |

I visit Munich (München) on a regular basis. It's the capital of Bavaria (Bayern). There are buskers in the Stachus and in Marienplatz. What are they doing that other buskers aren't doing?
I am aware that some of the EU countries require buskers to be EU citizens in order to perform.

Good idea Gallager but I do see one problem. WQe are buskers, we live by our own rules (which are usually very civil and nice to others) but to try to organize buskers is like herding cats. Each of us is too much of an individual to be unionized. We may play well with others but we will make a living on our own.

Thanks for taking the time to think about it fellas.
First Paddy,... you´re right. You hit the button on every point. I was sitting in a moment of `full moon fantasy´,...... ah it felt good though,..... spoil-sport! Bill, Munich DOES permitt "Regulated Busking". Permits for two `variety acts´per day. Once every two weeks. After a light audition. In the `high season´ you have to apply a couple of days in advance,... too a couple of weeks. If it rains on your day,.... too bad. 10 Euros, not refunded. For guys living in and around Munich, hey, no problem. For traveling shows,.... hell. Playing in the Parks is allowed and OK,... but the meat is in town. Munich has over five kilometers of pedestrian zones,.. two `Shows´? They would love to forbid it totally. At one time it was,.. but they were taken to court. And lost. If I go there and `play with´,.. I´m legitimizing the game. Jerry, Germany has a really rich history of Street Performing. The greatest of èm all, Bosco, lived his last years and is buried in Dresden. Funny, even the Munich pedestrian zone has old stone carvings of middle age bagpipers on it. The problem, in the case, Munich; is a simple one. Money. The germans have a pretty little phrase, "futterneid".,... "jealousy?, envy?,..while watching another person eat. Even though, you are not hungry in the moment". The town puts the clamps on street shows, because shop owners see us turning "easy, tax-free money,.. and walking-off with the pretty girls". Chidren´s Hospitals? Schools?,... Community Centers???,.... gee Jerry, I thought were friends. In all honesty guys, it was a moment of `waggon fever´. I´m OK now. I played a real small town outside of Nürnberg. Nobody hasseled me. Everyone told me how great I am. Even the police watched half of my second show,.. and smiled. The world is in order again. thanks for the open ear, gallagher. |

Gallagher, it's the "out of the ordinary" thinking like yours that leads to scientific, business, magician, etc. creativity, and often advancement. Brain storming. Good on you for promoting thought and discussion!
The presentation makes the magic.
