With all the hoopla over helmet to helmet collisions in American football causing concussions, the question is being raised: "What kind of head injury history does Rugby have?"

Some points that have been made:

- In Rugby, knowing your head is not protected causes one to be much more careful, resulting in less concussions, etc....

- In American football, knowing your head is 'protected' by a hard helmet causes one to be more wreckless where the head is concerned.

- I heard Troy Aikman on the radio saying that if you rally want to lessen head injuries in American football, go back to the old, leather helmets. Players will take one look at those and be much more careful.

I'm going to Google this, but thought it would be interesting to discuss here.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Three related articles. The second is the one I was looking for (describes a new helmet design I read about a couple of weeks ago) but the first and third are also good (compares NFL injuries to those in the Australian Football League and in rugby).

"Twenty Simon Fraser players tried the Xenith helmets in the 2009 season and all of them avoided concussions, which is why 70 of the team’s 98 players are wearing them this season. “This year we’ve had seven concussions but zero with the guys who are wearing Xenith helmets.”"

This one makes the rugby comparison:
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.
