Hi Guys,
Can anyone point in the right direction to find material regarding Pseudo Hypnosis? Many Thanks. |

Why bother Mel when the real stuff is soooooo easy?

Well, you can have pseudo hypnosis which might work or real hypnosis which might work.
But if I get where Mel is coming from then he might be a performer who wants to start and finish on time with a result somewhere in the middle. That being the case: whatever you do..... have OUTS. Pseudo hypnosis for me is having fun and I don't really care who believes what. REAL hypnosis for me (during a magic/mentalist act) requires belief. Sooooooo... if it works it works and if it doesn't it still seems like it works because I'm stacked with outs. I hope this makes sense. Bob.

The Dr Q routine is available, and is wonderful. If you can't find it, go for Ormond McGill's Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis, and the routine is in there.
Zapped by Ricky Dunn is also well worth a read, and The People Sticker Routine, by Eddie Burke (available through http://www.mreenterprises.co.uk). That is a great pseudo hypnosis routine that you could drop straight into an act if it suited your performing style. Telepathy In Action by Orville Meyer is also essential reading. There is a book on pseudo hypnosis available through the Trickshop.com website also. Between all those resources you will have everything you need. Jon Chase asked why go down the pseudo route when the real stuff is so much fun. The answer is simple. Sometimes you only have a few minutes to perform, or the group might be too small, or too inhibited. The pseudo routines work very well in some circumstances and are a great tool to have at the ready.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the feedback. Like a few of you have mentioned, its a time thing more than anything else. If I'm in a party for example, music to loud for an induction so I just want to be able to get up and do something right away. I've got 'Zapped' which I think is brilliant. I also use a Luke Jermay effect where somebody holds a lit cigarette in their hand and feels no pain (Brilliant and very clever). I just want to add a few more quick, astonishing effects to the few that I already know. Once again, thanks guys. |

If you think Zapped "is brilliant," then I would respectfully suggest that you obtain a large amount of liability insurance. You're going to need it!

There are long threads on this in the Magic Café.
However, if after looking at the video you can't figure out why you could harm someone or be taken to court with a lawsuit, maybe you should consider not doing hypnosis at all. |

Yeah, here in the UK 'zapped' was used often by Paul Daniels back in the 70's (but by a different name). I do believe it is still a part of his show to this day.
And of course Barry and Stewart (who are trained in pure hypnosis) use 'zapped' constantly. However I do believe members of my fanily were doing this in the 1940's.

Seconded and (not really my kind of thing) but Act of Imagination by Enrique Enriquez might be worth looking at too.

Reg, thank you for correcting me. I was wrong and apologize.
However, my name is not "craig." That's why it's not spelled that way. |

I have read Act of Imagination, and I did not include it in my suggestions because I feel it is a bit weak, especially compared with Telepathy in Action (though he has one good idea in the book). I also feek Kenton Knepper's stuff is all airey-fairy, and I would not go for it unless I saw a strong demonstration. This applies particularly to Kentonism, which I did not find useful.

I've never attempted Telepathy in Action, albeit with somnambulists it happens normally (wink).
But I can see how it would work, but my oh my getting from zero to full presentation of TIA would ether take some time or require massive balls. Probably the latter. Why don't 'I' perform it? Probably because I have so much other good stuff. Yet I'm maybe fooling myself. Maybe I'm just scared?
